I think im a pretty fast type although i dont know how many words per minute i would manage if i was set against the clock. I have been using computers and indeed the keyboard for about seven or eight years now so im pretty comfortable with it and its also a bonus not having to look at the keyboard as i type anymore.

I can type somewhere around 60 wpm now. I went to business school many years ago and my speed was a little higher than that. While speed is good, they didn't care if you typed 100 words per minute if you made tons of mistakes. . .it was no good. Accuracy is extremely important, so I would work on accuracy over speed.

I'm a trained typist, so I can push myself to around 90wpm. Although my hands wear out because I have bad posture when typing. Usually, for long projects, I arch my fingers more to get better speed and less pain.
But lately, I type with one hand because I burned my left hand. With that, I can hover around 35-45 wpm.

I can type pretty quickly. I believe my average is around ninty words a minute. I normally will make a couple seconds while I'm attempting to type, however, so it doesn't work so well, so I end up slowing down.
It's not bad to type slowly. If you continue to practice the typing skills in the correct way, even if it's slower than your regular typing, then, sooner or later, you'll be a very fast typer whether you'll admit to it or not. It just takes a lot of practice. I think I had about two years of typing before I was anything useful on a keyboard. But that's what it takes.

I was trained years ago as a touch typist and can reach speeds of over 60wpm easily, and if I am really busy I can push this to 80wpm

My typing speed is -in my opinion- neither so good nor so bad, since I have to write in a language that it is not my first one.
In my own -of course- I can write better, speedy and virtually failsafe, whereas in English, I have to remember orthographic rules and it is quite a slowing handicap to me in facts.
On the other side I think that I can write better on IBM keyboards and especially on the so called QWERTY ones (from the first 6 letters at the top left corner, just underneath the numbers/symbols).
I can write down an entire page without looking at the keyboard, and just looking at the screen, in order to correct refuses and other typing errors.
I can use both hands and 100% fingertips since I've learned how to type-write when I was just a half the age I am now.
I used a didactic software -of course- to start learning how to type-write, and it worked.
It was also useful to improve one's typing speed.
