How do you handle tantrums?

My 19 month old has a LOT of tantrums, as in, every two or three minutes. Part of it is because he has a new baby brother and he is jealous, but no matter what I do to try and make him feel loved or keep him occupied, he just freaks out constantly, kicking, screaming, throwing stuff and having total meltdowns. I´m at the end of my rope. I dread each morning and can´t wait until bedtime, which is just lousy. I don´t want to hate spending time with my kid! Any tips on how to deal with this?
