Morgan Stud Died -

Our morgan stud died last Thursday and this is the first loss we have had since we started our small horse operation. We only have 9 horses and he was the basis of our program. I know I should be devestated because of that. I am more devestated because I feel like I have lost my best friend. To go out and find him dead......it was horrible. I know that life goes on and people will say that he was only a horse but he was so smart. Does anyoone have any tips how I can keep his memory alive but yet go on? I know this sounds very gloomy but that is how I still feel.

I am so sorry for your loss. Only those who have come to know a wonderful horse in their lifetime can appreciate just how much you have lost. Your horse undoubtedly sired a number of offspring, and they are his living legacy. I have never owned a Morgan, but they are one of my favorite breeds. Many Morgans served as work horses and provided vital trasportation for early pioneers in our country.

You are right, it is great to see his offspring on the land. Morgans are wonderful horses and ours truly have a great temperament. They seem to know what to do before we ask. Thanks for your kind words.

I know I'm a late on this one, but I agree with having something made out of some of his hair. We normally keep some mane or tail hair after ours pass. One of my coworkers sends it to her mother who makes nice little key chains out of it. There is also a woman local to us who will make bracelets. Another thing I've done is make a scrapbook. I'm still working on a scrapbook for a very special mare we lost last year. It's still been difficult for me, so I've only been working on it in little spurts. I'm sorry for your loss.

I am just learning how to Hitch horsehair and will be making a special hat band out of the mane we kept when I can do it good enough to honor him. Thank you for your kind words.

Well, I don't know if you still have any hair from his mane or tail, but I have heard of people braiding the hair into everything, like bracelets or even necklaces. Or keeping a lock of hair in remembrance. You might make a small donation to any of the horse rescue groups that are around - is there one in your area? You can go online to retirement.bloodhorse.com and this is a directory of the many horse rescue organizations. You could make a small donation in your horse's name. This is one idea anyway. I know horses have a lot of personality and are pretty smart, yes. So I know it will hurt for a while because good friends are hard to find...Best wishes to you.

What a great idea. Yes, we kept part of his tail as we were thinking we might be able to do something with it. I also have a beautiful picture of him which I am going to blow up. He will always be in our hearts. Thank you.

I think a small tree is also a good idea. He liked to stand under a tree so another tree on the farm is a good idea.

I made a hat band out of the tail hair of a horse that I once loved. then I always had something to remember him by.
