How do we have fruit flies, if we have no fruit?

The last two days I've noticed a few fruit flies in the kitchen. I was kind of confused because normally you need rotten fruit to have fruit flies. I've never had this happen in my house before! I have no fruit, or anything out in the kitchen, but yet they are still here? My husband noticed it tonight as well and asked if I know how we got them. I have no clue, but now they are annoying me. How can i get rid of these little buggers?

I have no idea why either. Now we are seeing regular flies in our house, but i think that is because the weather is getting cold and they need a warm place to stay. Luckily, my cats chase them and they don't last very long. LOL

Im not really sure how you get rid of them but my aunt one year had them really bad. She couldnt figure out why either. I will have to see if she can remember what she did so i can let you know.

Thanks for checking into it for me. I have no idea where these came from, and nothing is laying out. I'm going to bleach the kitchen counter tomorrow and sink to see if that is what is wrong. Thanks for your response!
