Have You Ever Named A Household Appliance Etc.?

I don't normally do this, but have on occasion. A few years ago, we had an upright vacuum from Sears, that was purchased as a floor model. It turned out to be 'a real lemon.' We returned it for one of the same make and model, but one that'd never been used. We should've left it in the cardboard box it came in. It too was 'a lemon,' and had the 'habit' of regularly gulping up everything in its path. It seemed to have a mind of its own, and would end up with smoke spewing out of it, and the belts breaking and burning rubber, on a regular basis. I named it 'Jaws.' We 'had to' replace it, and passed it on to a friend for use at his place of business. He contacted me one day, and said, "Jaws died." I knew exactly what he meant. What name(s) have you given to appliances and such, and for what reason(s)?

I'm so glad I was able to provide the laugh, mummymo. Are you okay? The only one I've ever 'actually' named, was 'Jaws,' and it seemed to come naturally, because of all of the problems. If you haven't read Transdisc's response above yet, give it a read. You'll be falling on the floor laughing, as I almost did, but please be careful of your back. Thanks for being such a good friend, and for your response here.:)

I'm so sorry, mummymo, and I certainly didn't want you to hurt yourself. It saddens me to think that you're in so much pain, and I'll continue to keep you in my prayers. Any word on that MRI yet? As you can see, 'our friend' is going to pay a return visit, so that should be 'very interesting.' My young friend is a little girl I've babysat from the time she was 8 mo. old. She's going into the first grade in the fall. Her dad's been laid off since the end of April, and because of this, so have I. I have her back for this week (anyway). She noticed 'the bear' avatar, and asked me about it, so the questions in his response are really hers. I told her he'd likely have the answers for her tomorrow. Please take care of yourself. xxx

I think your young friend (think she is the same age as Niamh - she will be 6 next month) is even funnier than trans! I hope you are having a lot of fun together! I am ok honey - really I am - it is only pain , nothing serious! I think the mri will still be weeks off yet , just have to wait - the national health service is a wonderful thing but it can be slow! Thanks for the prayers honey - they do mean a lot - honestly! xxx

Oh I have called my appliances and electronics all kinds of names. None of them good ones though. Since they always seem to break or gian a mind of their own at the worst times

I've experienced many of these same problems, mfpsassy. I think 'Jaws' was my most frustrating one ever though. Thanks for your response.

Sorry to hear about your washer, and I can definitely stretch my imagination here.:) Actually mine 'gave up the ghost' last year, and it was a 2nd hand one ... who knows how old, and not worth fixing. We had to wait awhile, but actually have a brand new one now, purchased this past spring. The first new one I've ever had, so it's great. I hope you were able to get the problem with yours sorted out. Take care.

I can definitely relate to your 'strong feelings' about your computer, Zinediin. They are 'most wonderful, and terrible' at the same time. Thanks for your response, and welcome to myLot.

I guess doing this type of thing is 'weird' for some people SuffocatingAngel, but I find it can be fun too, and a great stress reliever at times ... especially when 'Jaws' was gulping up everything in sight. I can relate to the 'mixing up names' part, as I do this type of thing on a regular basis, with people. Thanks for sharing, and welcome to myLot.
