Which Do You Prefer In Using: Backpack or Shoulder Bag?

In college, most ladies I see use shoulder bags. They say it would make them look really grown up - and it's fashion.. But I'd like to use my old backpack in high school because I have a lot of things to bring - and it's easier to use and more convenient! Once I tried using my old backpack, my old friends laughed at me.. They said I shouldn't be using backpacks anymore because I'm in college.. But when I used my shoulder bag, I felt irritated because I had to carry my books in my arms! Wouldn't it be better if I stuffed them all in my bag? What do you think? Do bags really matter???

i stated using shoulder bags during 3rd year HS until now..
actually.. you dont have to carry all of your books on ur arms.. you can use larger shoulderbags that can carry some of your books... i do have a shoulder bag that does looke very fashionable but also very useful...
but honestly now.. im using badpack for my laptop... i cant use my laptop's case coz its so heavy... i put it on my very cute bagpack that could also be fasionable during this time...
you know... i believe young girls really have to consider fasion since it may also show the character of a person. but also you have to be comfortable on it.
happy posting... take care

no definitely not. You shud use what you like. i remember when i was studying for my undergrad all my classmates changed their bags to the then trend ones. But i used my backpack and they mocked me. I didnt care as i liked using my backpack and you dont live for others but ourselves.

You also have a point. Do you feel good when you don't care about what others think? I like your style, bro.. :) good for you!

thanks for that insight, archie20. you're right.. you shouldn't live according to what people may think about you. you should please yourself first.. to those who won't mind, good, they matter.. and to those who do, hmph, they don't matter! :)

More than thinking about others reaction,I just think see this makes me feel happy i will do that.See for whatever i do i just think will this make me happy .if it does i do it.I remember when i was doing undergrad i used to wear skirts to my college. I studied where it is slightly conservative still.Everybody looked at me as tho i was committing a sin.I didnt care.
Let me tell you. we have one life we shud live as we want.by not doing things u want and trying to please people around u ,you can only please some people not everybody. Is it worth it not. You are making yourself unhappy . you shud enjoy and do things u want and have a look back and say i did that becoz i wanted to do it.

Back on my elementary and ealry high school days, i used backpacks.
But when i was older, maybe 3rd-4th yr highschool, I started using shoulder bags.
I have to admit, that I started to use the shoulder bag beacuse it made me look more lady-like, and it was the fad. So from then on, i have been using shoulder bags for school, even upto college. But later on, I just got comfortable using the shoulder bag.
Yeah, it is more comfortable to use a backpack, especially when you are carrying loads of books.=D
Instead of a backpack, why not try using a bodybag or a mailman's bag so that you'd be comfortable and at the same time fashionable.*wink*

Yes, I already bought one this morning. Instead of backpack or shoulder bags, I've decided to use that mailman's bag.. Pink! :)

I have a lot of bags..I've got a back pack and a shoulder and a sling bag. Right now, I'm using my shoulder bag...cause..I dunno, I just feel like using it.
Backpacks are okay as well..its more convenient and you can practically fit in anything. ^__^.

I'm not saying that shoulder bags shouldn't be used. For other occassions, sure. They look nice and elegant. But as for students who carry books and note books? I'm sure most students rent lockers for their books. But what about when they need to take home books to study? Backpacks can spare them the trouble of carrying heavy loads with their hands, right? :)

I am not a student anymore, but always carry my backpack on my wheelchair anyway. I carry groceries, books, copies, and whatever I might need for a day full of anything from a march, a trip to the copy store or the library, or a day of shopping at the grocery or mall.

I have always used a shoulder bag, I find backpacks a little too uncomfortable for me. when I was at school, way back in the distant past, I had a satchel which was big enough to carry all my books with ease.

Whenever I see ladies using shoulder bags, they look fine. But when I take a closer look, they're shoulders aren't at the same level. The other shoulder is higher than the other.. Then when they set their shoulder bags down, it's still the same! Like they've gotten used to it.. I don't like it.. I still prefer backpacks. :)

I agree. Backpack is a lot more convenient because it can carry a lot of stuff. And makes your shoulders balance.. Unlike in shoulder bags - makes your other shoulder higher than the other.. And creates muscle pain. :)

Bags are of different designs and sizes, why I'm stating this because you should know when to use such. Of course your friends will laugh at you when you're wearing your uniform which I guess is a skirt. See the picture... and your using a backpack, not suitable, right? Though its handy and less mess but there are also bags that you can put all your things but still in fashion or appropriate in your attire.
For me I use both, depending on what occassion or type of dress I'm wearing. I use backpack when I travel because it is more convenient to carry. And shoulder bag if occassion calls for it. And bag does matter if you want to put some accent in your dressing.

I guess I'll just have to endure the trouble of carrying large school books in my arms. *sigh*

hello diannebcra,I prefer using the backpack.A backpack & a bit of luck!(just like the book..oohhkay)lol.I guess it is fashionable for shoulder bags but backpacks ensure you don't get aches around your shoulders cos the straps are usually wide & it carries the weight off you.Yes,I truly understand what you mean,my friends laugh at me too but at the end of the day,I don't get shoulder aches.hehe.

You're right. It does have its advantages. My friends laugh at me because I'm the only one who wears a backpack in class, but at least my arms aren't surrounded with heavy books. At the end of the day, I don't feel muscle pains. It really is convenient.
Although I wear shoulder bags when there are occasions.

which is your concern? being laughed at or comfort. that would be the point of your decision making. because we cannot pretend all the time. if it is not comforting to you to use a shoulder bag. why allow yourself to suffer to avoid ridicule? go ahead and use your backpack
yeah!backpack rules. lets go beyond the "norms" there is no harm in deviation

Its a backpack for me though I am not in college but working from home. A shoulder bag/ handbag is definitely too small for my files, catalogues.

Carrying a backpack is actually better than carrying a shoulder bag. With a backpack, the heavy books in your back will actually be balanced by the straps on both shoulders. Where as the shoulder bags has one strap on your shoulder which can actually cause your spine to curve. As you have one thing pulling down on your shoulder while the other shoulder is free of weight.
They make fun of you, but in the long run, the backpack is better for your spine and shoulders.

yes, you are right! i've noticed girls who use shoulder bags have unbalanced shoulder level.. well, their other shoulder is higher. รถ it's better to use backpacks, right?

When I was younger I would use backpacks for my books, but as I grew older, I started using shoulder bags. You can use a big shoulder bag to carry your books.

What a childish reaction from your friends?! hehehe... yeah... you kinda look like a high school student if you wear your backpack, especially with lots of stuff in it. :) joke. uhmm... i guess its ok to wear a bakcpack but if it affects your mood or your personality as well by how others judge by the way you look at, why not try to consider using a Messenger Bag. In Ivy League Schools like Harvard, Oxford, and the like, lots of college students wear messenger bags when they go to school. Its fashionable and you can carry lots of stuff in it. That's a midway item from a conventional backpack and a "kikay" shoulder bag. Some other college students tend to wear backpacks, for its convenient with them especially when the backpack has the capability to store a laptop from within.
So, the issue here is whether your comfortable with it or not? :)
