Well she had the surgery May 20th..She is going back tomorrow for a 3rd surgery becasue apparently she has an infection in her stomach from 1 of the stitches that didnt desovle. She had some compications after being sent home from her 1st surgery. During the 2nd surgery she apparently had more complications and stayed in the hospital for 11 days in intensive care. Noone told her exactly waht happened to her and why she was in intensive care to begin with. She got a call from the hospital today to set up for tomorrows surgery to remove the problematic stitch. The lady calling asked her what compication she had had with her previous surgery and my friend responed with "I dont really know" well so they ended the call after all the info needed was giving. An hour later she got a call from her surgeon and was told the reason for intensive care. He told her "you had a heart attack".
I would have thought they would need to tell her or her husband something of this nature before they were ever discharged from the hospital. I was in shock over this. THats crazy. I told her she needs to be finding a new hospital and surgeon. What do you think? What would you do in this situation?

fyrechsr - This is wierd. My daughter called me last week and told me about someone we know who was in a similar situation. This lady had a lapband put on her stomach in order to lose weight. Before the surgery was done she was told to be on a liquid diet for a week. She didn't do this but lied and said she did - after it was put on and upon her release from the hospital she was told to stay on the liquid diet - once again she didn't do it. her first meal out of the hospital was fried chicken. She continued eating what she wanted until it got to the point where she couldn't eat and was being sick. The band had slipped and caused problems with her stomach. It had to come off. She demanded that they replace it immerdiately. After a lot of wrangling and her wanting the band replaced right away they surgery went ahead. When they removed the band her stomach was in such poor shape it ruptured and during this happening she had a heart attack and went into cardiac arrest. Since she had signed papers stating the band was to be put back on they had to get a family member to sign for them to end the surgery without putting the band back on. The last I heard she was refusing to leave the hospital until they replaced the band. You are probably thinking this woman has to be nuts after coming so close to losing her life during the surgery. Siince I am in another country I haven't thought to ask my daughter what the latest is on this fiasco. I will find out and let you know. But it just struck me how similar the two stories were.

LOL Yes I do think she is nuts, but that is my opinion. I would get out and forget about that. I think she needs to think about what she is doing to herself by not following what she is told to do by her doctors as it really does impact her life. Thanks for responding and let me know how she is doing.
