I guess what he means is that they will fight to the end and will fight with delight, just like dining, except they are in a battle which may be regarded as hell.

Yes, I think so too.
This movie has got perhaps the best script of the season and -in my opinion- one of the best photography and scenes ever seen.
The choice of the story is wonderful and some scenes are charming.
It is not a simple historical movie, it is a way of feeling and living history for the new generation.
As ancient poets said it teaches and delights altogether.
It is not -for me- a crude exhibition of violence, instead, it reaches peaks of visual poetry in an expressionistic sense.
It is the perfect synthesis of hi-tech visual effects and historical background: a masterpiece.
If someone wants to despise it, the reason is just envy.

A line to remember indeed. I was very surprised to find this line "Tonight we dine in hell!" in another movie, "Alexander" (a movie I must say it disappointed me). So it is possible that the generals or kings of Ancient Greece often used this line before going to battle.

You are right my friend. Though I am also dissapointed with that movie also. I prefer Leonidas shouting those words... it fits him better lolz

The greatest line for me from the movie 300 is "THIS IS WHERE WE FIGHT! THIS IS WHERE THEY DIE!!!" confidence outpouring! and after seeing 300 in the theaters, I vowed never to see it again. Because the experience was so great the first time, the feeling can never be reproduced. AHROO!!!

every dialogue is a class act.. 300 is an absolutely terrific movie. the attitude, the valour the spartans display send a chill down my spine. so much to keep their honour. they challenged and even demured a person who projected himself as god. i think they were bogged down by the wrong priests who just had no respect for these warriors. my personal favorite line in the movie when the king says : SPARTANS NEVER RETREAT!!!!!!!!!!. the greatest sequence when the king as a young lad fights the beast and also , when he kicks the intruder into the well..
