I prefer Dell laptops since i feel they are bang for the buck. But i am not inclined to any manufacturer as far as the specifications match my requirements. I loki forward a 9 cell battery, atleast a GB of RAM and a dedicated low end graphic card in a any laptop.

My ideal subnotebook is Sony Vaio tz11XN, I used it for a week and I'm really amazed for its weight and functionalities, but it is too expensive.

I don't have HP laptop, but my boss has - looks nice, but I love the Sony Vaio better (I am a VAIO fan). One thing that I noticed about HP laptop is that it is much heavyer than Sony Vaio's (of coaurse depends on the model). The second thing that I don't like is that you can't replace the built in wireless card with some other brand wireless card - to get more powerful or more featued wireless card. When you put a different card inside the mini-pci express slot then when you boot up the laptop it will tell you to remove the inserted device - you cannot bypass it. But if you are not plannig to upgrade the wireless card then I could tell it is a good laptop.
