My cat randomly attacks when he's cuddling....

My cat is not quite 2 years old yet. He's a pretty active cat all day. He seems to really like me and others too, even though he's a bit timid around others.
Sometimes he comes by me and seems to want to bite me and I tell him NO! and sometimes he will hold back and others he'll go for it and run. Other times he'll come back and be an absolute sweet heart. He'll purr and cuddle and kneed me and rub his head against me. Things will be going great and then BAM, all claws around my arm and chomp.
I don't know if there's any correcting this behavior. I think he just has a lot of energy and I do play with him but it never seems to be enough. He was taken away from his mother early, (the owners before him took him from outside mother and brought him in to bottle feed.) so I hear sometimes that can be a problem.
You know how it is when you love an animal so much you don't wanna just give it away. I don't want to do that. I wanna keep him, but this lunging at me is not cool. He seems to try to act dominant over me. :(

Maybe you need to go to the vet and ask him about this issue. Maybe it's because the kitten isn't mature enough to know not to do that.

My cat is almost 5 and does the same exact things. He even has this thing where he rolls over and looks all cute and like he's saying 'rub my tummy mommy!' but the moment you touch the stomache, he attacks! Mostly he's nice about it... it's all in good fun and playfulness. Sometimes he gets too into it and turns mean. He knows when I point at him and say NO that he's gotta stop and he does. As my cat got older he learned to be a little more gentle with the scratching.
I think it's fairly common and normal. Just make sure he knows "NO" and keep his claws clipped well so you don't get too many cuts and scratches.

My cat does this and he is about 4 years old. My husband and I find it funny. We joke that he wants our full attention and we aren't giving it to him. I do think it's just a sudden burst of energy. Sometimes he'll bite down then just sit there with his teeth resting on my arm. It's funny. I love cats for that reason. They just do weird stuff like playing ninja kitty and running around the house. It's fun.

Wow, that sounds so much like my Diablo, lol. He is better with me than anyone else, and he has calmed down a lot since we got him fixed. He's a little over a year and a half. The funniest things he does when he's in his "moods" is he will run and "attack" someone's leg, then take off, pausing just long enough to look back as if saying, "ha ha, I got you" or when you are walking with slippers on, he will run at bat it off your foot when you take a step. He's so fast, you don't even see it coming. But we know he's just playing, because he doesn't bite or claw hard enough to hurt anyone. And he is so gentle with our daughter (who is 14 months old). Diablo was only about 5 weeks old when I brought him home. And I wouldn't even think about giving him away, unless he hurt someone on purpose (namely, our daughter). But so far, he's never done that.
