So far there have been reports of ipod users who were listening to there ipods and got struck by lighting. There was a Canadian who was jogging and got struck by lighting, and there was a young guy cutting grass and got strucked by lighting. But my question is why would you want to do any of these activities in the lighting? Are they trying to be like Ben Franklin?

I don't think that these people got struck by lightning just because they were using iPods. I think they were out running or mowing the lawn in a storm, which increases the statistical probability of being struck by lightning. Why does no one say that the lawnmower is what caused the young guy to get struck by lightning? It's a much larger piece of metal.
All an iPod, or any electronic device that you are using in a storm, can do is amplify the effects of the lightning. Devices like that do not attract electricity to them.

That's a good question, Ty. Why ARE they doing those activities in weather where there's lightning??
I run too, but I'll be derned if I'm going to run around outside when lighning's shooting around the sky!
When the weather's like that here I run on the treadmill....
