Why is healthy food so expensive?

I was just reading a blog where someone mentioned that organic and healthy food is way more expensive than fast food. I want so badly to start eating organic in hopes to clean out my system, lose weight and possibly beat the diabetes. (I was told that someone lost a lot of weight and now doesn't have to take insulin.) But I just can't afford it. The person also mentioned that we (Americans) should rally together and make some noise about this; I agree. Does anyone know a way to eat healthy all the time and not go broke doing it?

I think healthy food is expensive because to grow and produce organic food, it needs more time. Organic food doesn't use any "chemical" in order to make them grow faster. Thus, it will have to be planted and grown naturally. As a result, farmers can't harvest many organic food. We know that more supply means that the price can be lower.

Oh yeah, I hadn't thought of that. I guess another solution would be to grow your own veggies unless of course you live in an apartment in the city like I do.

Unless you grow your own fruit and vegetables and live on a farm, there is no way to eat healthy and not go broke. Why do you think all those poor people are so fat? It's because they eat all those starchy food because it is cheaper to buy macaroni and cheese then fruits and veggies. Even us middle class people, depending on whether we are upper, or lower, have to decide between buying the cheaper mass produced factory farm product or the more expensive organic product. For instance we were looking at organic Romaine lettuce, but my husband insisted we buy the regular kind. I had bought organic before we were on a pension and it lasted much longer. If there is a farmer's market around where you live, perhaps you can find some bargains there.

You're right, it is a bit expensive to eat organic and healthier.
I think the reason it's more expensive because it's harder to come by.
I think you're right also, we should rally together to insist on a better diet for the world.
