Been given the option to go onto a "pump" ? I am currently on straight oral medication..and as time goes on..and obviously my Diagnosis is such that I am not going to "get any better"...the Doctor, last month, approached me with the concept of going on a Morphine Pump...it is placed into the abdominal cavity, thru the back..and it is filled once every 3 months..instead of having to visit the Doc's every darn month...because I don't have secondary insurance, so I am faced with the 20 percent every month..which adds up quickly..and..much to my suprise..I would only be using a "smidge" of the amount of drugs I am using orally right now...the Doc said I am taking close to 300 percent more than I need to take, because that's what necessary, orally, to cut into my pain level..so, I wouldn't be exposing my vital organs to all the opiates/narcotics I am right now!!
By some chance is there anyone else with one of those

I have never heard of such a thing and I am surprised a doctor would recommend it. Morphine is addictive and having that kind of a procedure done seems unnecessary. This is just my opinion, of course, but I have had fibromyalgia for 11 years and I have been taking Tylenol 3's for my pain. I was taking 6-8 a day. I am now down to 1-3 a day. Why? Because I have searched and tried other treatments. I found my pain eased since taking Mag-Citrate 3 times a day (Magnesium & Malic Acid - a must for fibromites), since I started exercising every week day (slowly at first and built up over time), and the weight loss from the exercise. I think the right anti-depressant can do wonders in assisting in these things. Who wants to exercise if they are really depressed (even though walking can help boost your energy and your mood)?
Unless I was in my 80's, I would not take morphine for my fibromyalgia pain. I don't know how long you have been ill, in fact I don't know you at all, but one of the things we fibromites must do is our research. There is a lot of information out there, a lot of treatments. What works for one may not work for another, that is why we experiment until we find what works for us.
What your doctor is suggesting sounds scary. I don't know the extent of your pain but have you searched all other avenues? Get a second and third opinion from other doctors.
Good luck!

I have to reply to this..so you can see things a bit more clearly...envision the following...
It was a cold, clear night, February 12, 1994..a record cold for Metro Detroit...when, after agreeing foolishly to accompany an ex to dinner, to get back my car title...my two young sons then, and myself depended on this vehicle for my ability to take them to preschool and school, and myself to work daily..without the title...I would end up in a clear mess...
He had a few too many cocktails, dropped me back off at my apartment building and saw a car running..the "smoke" from their exhaust was from the bitter cold..it was below zero...he insisted this car was my "new boyfriend"..which couldn't have been further from the truth..truth be told, I had no idea that this was the girlfriend of the man who lived above me..she was about to go upstairs, when she saw and heard alot of commotion going on in the Pickup truck that had just pulled in (our vehicle)..he had punched me in the face and side of the head so many times that he had herniated the c-5/6 disc in my neck, broke several molars in my mouth..broke my nose...and created an enormous contusion just below my left eye...he reached over and opened the truck door and with his cowboy boots, kicked me out of the vehicle.....i fell to the ground..and somehow pulled myself up...grasping at the front grill, anything that was solid, i pulled myself around to the other side of the truck..realizing my purse was still in the vehicle along with my apartment keys...
the "commotion" she saw was when i reached in his window, which was down as he screamed at me, and was grabbing for my purse ..it was my ex as he grabbed my upper arm and screamed..."I'm gonna kill you, B"....
he then proceeded to drag me thru the parking lot at an estimated 35 miles per hour..bouncing alongside the truck like a ragdoll...until as he made a turn..he dropped me..i hit the pavement, thankfully lightly cushioned with snow..but still causing a closedhead injury, along with a concussion ...the woman in the car, in the meantime, tried relentlessly to block his vehicle...he managed to dodge her vehicle and left the parking lot....she jumped out and made her way over to me...
at that point , because of the blood and i was unconcious, she thought i had passed on...
she ran upstairs to grab a coat, as she had nothing with her..and called the police...
This story goes on..but there is no use in telling the rest...but this is the cause of my "fibro"...as well as alot of add'l orthopaedic injury....
I think if you did more research on boards, you would also find alot of people who have Fibro, were, in fact , victims of automobile accidents, and other severe trauma to their bodies...The type of medication I take, as you have found out, is not at all out of the ordinary for "chronic pain"..I did start out with "Tylenol" based pain meds..and found through my many Doctors that they are horrific for your liver, over long periods...tylenol can only breakdown so far..and the rest "sits" in your liver...So..you may want to talk to your Doctor about your tylenol meds..it can be very scary!!
Good luck to you..but always remember...before jumping to conclusions, check it out first...I have done more than my share of "research" and actually run two boards, one on Fibro and one on Chronic Pain...
Best of luck!

I am sorry about what you have gone through. I am also a "survivor" of spousal abuse. I have also done a lot of research on fibromyalgia and run a support group in my town. I have had the illness for almost 11 years now. This is why I was so surprised that I had never heard of such a thing. In all my years of research and dealings with people with fibromyalgia I have never EVER heard of such a thing. And since the other members of my board have, I don't understand why no one ever mentioned it before. Nor have I heard about it from other doctors I consulted.
I do apologize for jumping to conclusions. You weren't clear in your initial post of the severity of your injuries/pain/illness and I cannot begin to know what pain YOU feel. I did follow up after I posted, and returned here to apologize for not having heard of such a thing. What more can I say?

I'm alittle confused here..can't appndicitis be remedied by removing the appendix..so that would be considered "acute", not chronic...or, am I wrong??
