Paperbacks Or Hardcover: which do you prefer?

I love to read and I get many books from various sources. Some are borrowed and some are given to me. Some I buy new and others I get used. I love hardcover books, especially when they are new. They aren't convenient to carry with me though. I can't just toss it in my bag when I have to go somewhere and want some reading material like a doctor's office. Also, paperbacks are not only convenient to carry, but they are much cheaper. They are also easier to store. Which do you prefer, hardcover or paperbacks and where do you get your books from most of the time?

I used to join books clubs because you could get five or six books for a dollar. However, the obligation of having to return cards to remind them not to send the monthly selection got to be too much of a hassle. Now I just get them from friends, bookstores, online or at garage sales.

That is what happened to me so I canceled all my clubs and I get them where ever I can...

I never liked the requirement of having to buy a certain amount of books over a certain time period (varied with every club). In my experience, the introductory offers had the best books and then the catalogues had no books that interested me!

Even though hardcarver books look nice I perfer paper back for a number of reasons for one thing they are a lot cheaper then hardcover books hardcovers usually go around $20 but paper backs go for about $7.00 or less which is the best part of them plus there a lot lighter and easier to carry around with you when you go on vacation so normally I but paper backs.

I love to read. I usually get my books from other people. I buy some every once in a while too for myself. And I borrow them from the library sometimes too. I like the hardcover ones better than the paperback. The paperbacks just tear up so easily.

I am an avid reader and don't care if it is paperback or hardback so long as I enjoy the book. I tend to get a lot of books from eBay

I prefer paperbacks. They weigh less, and are easier to hold. Plus like you said they are cheaper than the hardcovers. I haven't actually bought a book in a while (I usually receive them as gifts :)), but the last time I bought some books it was from Barnes and Noble.

Hi there. I enjoy reading alot and I prefer to read from "Paperbacks", these books can easily fit into my hand bag, so I can take my book anywhere and enjoy my read. Although I dont have nothing against "Hard cover books" either, these are probably preferred around home. I get my books from the Book Store in the closest city or visit the library when I get time...

I love the look of hard cover books but if you are lolling in bed it is so much more convenient to have a paper back. You can fold it back and lie back on your pillow with one hand free. Hard covers stick into your chest and become cumbersome and heavy after a while. You also need to take off the dust cover so you dont wreck it so yeah like paper back convenience better. Hard covers look better on display.

I prefer hardcover... Its much easy to read on it. But i read any books. I got my books on power books. I also read on paperbacks beacause theres a lot of interesting stories. Like vampire chronicle. I'm just barrowing books from my friend so i really dont care if its cheap or expensive...

I love hardbacks but like you say....they aren't convenient to read on the train for instance!!! I generally read paperbacks but if it is a book that I know I love (ie the paperback has fallen to bits) or is a reference book...one that I know I'd like to keep for the rest of my life I usually splash out on a hardback.

I do love hardcover books. I certainly won't give them away. They stay in my library. I love the feel of a hardcover book in my hands. But I like the convenience of paperbacks as I also like to take one with me everywhere because you never know when you will have time to kill. I know hardcovers are expensive. I was a member of a book club as well and eventually cancelled. They are "begging" me to come back but I haven't even read the books I got from them years ago when I first joined the club. Ridiculous but because I am trying to focus on my writing, reading hasn't been a priority, unless they are books on writing. If I can get hardcovers cheap at the basement sale at the library or the Salvation Army or other thrift stores, then I will take them. Of course, even thrift stores mark their hardcovers higher than their paperbacks. But that is business.

I get mine from a trade in bookstore. I have many hardcovers but as I like to read in bed I prefer paperbacks as they are easier to hold when in bed.

It doesn't matter to me, but I usually always buy the paperback version unless it's a really famous book that I will want to keep forever (such as my Harry Potters). I mostly like paperbacks because they are cheaper and, like you said, easier to transport. The only problem is that the covers are easily able to bend, but that doesn't usually happen. I absolutely love book warehouses. There's not one around here but when my cousin and I went to Myrtle Beach with her family we went to a book warehouse. Most of the books were only around $2.99. She found one paperback that was $2.99, and then I found the exact book in hardback for even cheaper - 99 cents! I wish there was a book warehouse around here, then I'd probably own hundreds of more books that I do already. Haha.

I prefer paperbacks. They are easier to carry around and dont take up alot of space in my tote bag. I am a avid reader so the price is so much better for me, since my family is on a budget. I normally buy my books from Halfprice books but I have a really good friend who will give me her books when she is done since we have the same taste in authors.

I like hardback books but they cost too much. So I prefer paperback books. I buy most of mine from bookstores in the mail, or walmart, or ebay. I love to read. We are thinking of starting a book club at work and just sharing our books. That way we all don't spend a lot of money on books. I think it is a good ideal.

I like both actually and sometimes I get them at various places. I got some at a Barnes and Noble sometime back when it comes to books. I think it just depends on the title and what I can afford at the time. I have no preference between the two.
