Head of Homeland Security's Statement

I was floored when I heard the statement released by head of Homeland Security Chertoff a couple days ago. It said, in effect, that he has a gut feeling that America will come under a terrorist attack sometime this summer. I call that an irresponsible act. This does not increase my faith in our Department of Homeland Security. Since when did our government officials start going by their "gut feelings?" He gave no details and no reassurance that they were on the job to try and root out these would-be terriorists. I think that he should be replaced.

Wow that sure does sound like he didn't think for even a fraction of a second before opening his mouth! I am not American and I did not hear his statement but from what you say he really did just spout off whatever happened to flicker through his brain! Okay a lot of time people who are experienced in their field have gut instincts that are based on their vast knowledge and past experiences but for a man in this position to say this without any reassurances or at least saying that they were doing their best to keep everyone safe is plain irresponsible and thoughtless! xxx

So right, mummymo, and this is not the first blunder he has made. To me, the man is incompetent, but he is a member of Bush's inner circle I suppose. He has not shown any type of leadership in any situation that I know of.

Well honey I haven't really heard of him much but I do know that most of the world spend a lot of the time laughing at George Bush (not me - it scares me to think a clown has his finger on THE button that can finish us all!) and I imagine many of his cronies are like him! xxx

I seen a portion of this but didn't hear what all he said. I think america and some other countries need to be reassured of their safety these days. We always have to worry about what is going to happen with the war and everything else that is going on these days. I think he should be replaced also.

That is true, stephcjh. It seems that we are under a constant fear that disaster is lurking just in the background. This is enough to keep people living in a state of constant fear. That is not how things should be.

Chertoff is now the butt of all the late night jokes. He needs to go, along with many other administration officials. I call his comment a very irresponsible act also. It's meant to intimidate us and allow DHS to impose more restrictions on us, as well as continue the war in Iraq. I'll never understand why we failed to go after Bin Laden and attacked Iraq. We should have finished our first job before taking on another one. I guess the fact that the Bin Laden family is friends with the Bush family figured into this decision.

Isn't it great, next thing you know they will be saying it is a woman's intuition that something is going to happen this summer, and to think we voted these guys into office, gotta love it!

You have to wonder, texas, who's running this country? Maybe we could get the famous psychic lady who is always on Montel Williams to run the country, LOL.

I think they should be the drunk minister that marries everybody on the Jerry Springer show, at least give us some humor in our lives ...

Open mouth insert foot. He sounds like a total moron to me. Homeland security is a joke. They seem to be more involved in taking away the people's rights and freedoms than care about the welfare of the country. I wouldn't trust any of their gut feelings. Let's hope we get better people in government next election. It's like a Punch & Judy show these days.

Y ou hit the nail over the head, spiritwolf. This whole war is a fiasco. I've never seen our country's morale at a lower point. What is amazing to me is how the people gave this administration a second term. Homeland Security was established so that the government could trample on the rights of the people. They are taking away more of our freedoms with each passing day. I think that whoever gets in next time around will be an improvement on what we now have.

I agree, anyone in that kind of position should not be spreading rumors based off of a gut feeling. Plus not giving any details or anything is crap. If your going to say something like that you should atleast have some sort of evidence or something to back it up. I say toss him out and bring in "the new guy".

I'm with you on that, gwah. I think that Howdy Doody could do a better job of running the country than what we are now seeing. (Just in case you don't know who Howdy Doody was-he was a puppet back in the 50s with a tvshow).
