Two days ago, I listened to a professor who talked about stress, how to cope with it, and probably almost everything about it. There was this statement he made that made me go, "Oh really?!" He made a statement about the two types of stress responses. He called it the "Fight or flight" response. Some people deal with stress by facing it, but some others flee from it. Isn't fleeing a way of escape, and not dealing with it? No matter where I look, I don't see flight as a solution to stress. How do you guys respond to stress?

Hello lavenderoselilies. :). Praying is also my first line of defense, and not my last resort. This may be the very reason why I have the guts to face stress or whatever problem head-on. Well, it isn't really me who conquer the stress, but the One who is in me. Because He who is in me is greater than he who is in the world. God bless you. :)

I am sure the professor would have explained the difference between fight and flight :p
In times of stress, I do either fight or flee. I fight when I know I am sure to beat it. When I flee, it is not so much about escaping from it. Even if one escape now, one cannot escape forever. When I "flee", it means staying cool instead of heading head-on. When one is at ease, the stress can be easier managed.

I respond to stress by confronting it head on, and dealing with it as soon as it comes up. Sure I get tired sometimes, but it's easier for me to just get it out of the way and dealt with than to sweep it under the rug and have it ocme out at me, or to react emotionally, and let it get the better of me that way.

When I'm stressed, I eat. I deal with the problem, but find myself eating even if I'm not really hungry. Perhaps I'm gearing my body up to 'fight', or perhaps I'm using the eating as 'flight', or as a means of escape from the stress. I don't really know.

Learn to think of challenges as opportunities and stressors as temporary problems, not disasters. Practice solving problems and asking others for help and guidance rather than complaining and letting stress build. Make goals and keep track of your progress. Make time for relaxation. Be optimistic. Believe in yourself. Be sure to breathe. And let a little stress motivate you into positive action to reach your goals.
Ever notice that certain people seem to adapt quickly to stressful circumstances and take things in stride? They're cool under pressure and able to handle problems as they come up. Researchers have identified the qualities that make some people seem naturally resilient even when faced with high levels of stress.
