Microsoft word 2007

Is it just me or Microsoft Word 2007 eats up a lot of memory on your computer. I noticed when they open it there is a sudden slowdown of my computer probably because of the memory that this programme uses? It has a lot feature as I know but it is beginning to work like Norton. need feedback thanks
