I find that when I exercise a lot during the day I always sleep better at night. But if I wake up at night and can't sleep, I will usually try to read a book until I get sleepy. Maybe sometimes I will have a little soy milk, too.

Oh wow, you are up late at night. Here it is almost 8PM at night. I'm in the eastern US.

When I had insomnia I had a doctor that told me to do many different things to see which one works, ok so during the day get as much exercise as you can so that your body gets tired. Make sure that your bed is only used for sleeping in, dont watch tv in bed or anything like that, this is so that your brain can associate going to bed with going to sleep. Also every night before you go to bed do the same thing, such as reading a book, this will also train your brain to go to bed and go to sleep. Drink a nice hot milk drink before you go to bed, this has a calming effect. Have a bath before you go to bed so that you are nice and relaxed. These are several things that I was told, you can try them out if you like, I hope that from the list you might find one thing that may help, sleep deprivation is one of the worst tortures there is, I hope that it will improve soon for you. If nothing else works consult a doctor they might be able to help

matte5,
I agree with everything Cassy1976 wrote except "Drink a nice hot milk drink before you go to bed"--big disagreement there cause during sleep everything slows down, especially digestion and the milk creates a very sour stomach and other gastric problems over time; however, an herbal tea such as lavendar, chamomille or decaf green is very relaxing and cleansing so that any undigested foodstuffs can be neutralized and eliminated instead of laid to ferment . . .

Well you can exercise, read a book, play a game on the computer that will make your eyes sleepy. Possibly watch some tv? Read a bunch of post on here that you don't have much interest in so it gets boring to you. LOL I don't know what else. Good luck in going to sleep.

When I can`t sleep I go to the fridge and cut myself a big nice chunk of cheese and put butter on it - no bread! then I go to bed and soon I can sleep because the blood goes from my brain to my belly to digest.
I can sleep like a baby after I eat a chunk of cheese with butter on top.
