People I wanted your views on believing that breaking of glasses or mirrors are good or bad for life. There are so many spiritual beliefs like breaking glasses, boiling of milk etc. which old people like my grandma and other people here believe all this. these days my mom is very tensed as well as worried about breakening of much glases in my home, sometimes mirror, glass bowls,3-4 glasses... Old People here say that breaking of glasses are good bcoz some evil have stopped by the glass and have not reached you instead. But some people also say that its bad...i too have noticed that when ever some glass items have broken, something bad have happened. so,what to believe?

I don't think breaking a glass or mirror will give you bad luck. It's only an incident. If it really can give us bad luck, then it's better we don't use them.

I was raised with similar beliefs. My family of origin has roots steeped in Celtic folklore and there were always a of superstitions to contend with growing up. The ones you stated about breaking glasses and mirrors were a big one in our family. With the sound of breaking glass...everyone would pause...look a little spooked then batton down the hatches and wait and watch for 'bad things' to occur. Now I no longer subcribe to any of it. I am trained in a variety of healing arts and live within an energy-based spiritual framework. I know if I focus on the belief that something bad is going to happen...it probably will. There is a Law of Attraction that can and does 'draws' things into our lives. So when mirrors or glasses break in our house. My hubby and I shout in gleeful excitement....BREAKTHROUGH! To us in means things are on an upswing for the better...and with that positive attitude...they usually are! One of my life mottos is...what you conceive..and believe...you achieve. So I chose not to believe 'the old wives' tales I grew up with. In my view the superstitions only have as much power as you give them. So whether they are good or bad simply depends on your own thinking. Choose to think what works best for you..but my suggestion is this...choose wisely because thinking can make it so.

That has to depend on how things are being broken. Did it break by itself or someone carelessly break it? I wouldnt want to believe that something bad will happen if i break things out of carelessness and if things do break which so far i yet to come across, well yes..i might take it as a warning instead

with no reasons they r breaking, carelessness cant be repeated so many times! the mirror broke by itself and the cups and glases by handling etc.

Actually, my parents were also reminding us when we were still very young that when some glass that would eventually broke then something bad was happening at very moment. That could either be a close relatives or family friends.

Hello coolcat123 Yup in some country breaking a glass or mirror is a bod thing, but maybe that happen because of the person is not careful. I am not believe in that, but older people believe that is a sign of something. I just believe in God that He already plan everything for us, every single second. God bless you *angel

I have heard that before but I don't think it's real or a wives tale. I had a glass broke but nothing happened. So really I don't know

The superstition is an old one and has managed to keep its strength over the years. In fact, many superstitions exist for mirrors but the particular beliefs centering around broken mirrors are the most common today. Because mirrors were thought to hold the key to the future, to break one was to shatter your own future. One of the techniques devised to reverse the bad luck was to bury all the pieces deep within the earth. Another superstition for breaking a mirror was that shortly thereafter a family member would die. My personal way of looking at this is that incidents occuring in our lives that may involve breaking of glasses or mirrors are not either bad or good lucks but are solely dependent in the hands of our creator. He is in control of everything, so we always ask His guidance to direct to us the correct path and if we go away from this direction, it is likely that we blame ourselves for these 'bad' things that come our way.

Yeah your right most of the oldies do believe about that supertition. But I don't believe in supertiotions even before too my mom used to believe but since we learn to read the Bible. But there are some instances that sometimes that are co- incidence that happened but I not believe that because of a broken glass that's why It happened.

In our culture breaking of glass is considered a good omen - that some thing good will happen but I think it is just a way of getting the person who broke the glass off the hook - otherwise that person might be punished or scolded for breaking things.

i've broken many glasses in my life..... and i'm still livin a great life! i guess if u believe it, it becomes real to you, and you connect other things in your life to it.... it starts in your head and it becomes a reality to you! since i don't belive it.... it's never been a reality to me!

I don't really believe in superstitious things like that. I've never personally broken a mirror but I have broken plenty of glass things and nothing bad has ever happened to me as a consequence. I think people are just paranoid and when something bad does happen to them, they blame it on some weird superstition that really had nothing to do with the incident that harmed you.

I've never had any thoughts on broken glass. I do believe that breaking a mirror is 7 years bad luck. I broke a mirror once and it seemed like when that 7 years was up I had plenty of good luck, which is unusual for me. Haha! Anyways a year went by and I broke a mirror and all my bad luck came back to haunt me. I can't say it's real, but it sure seems like it. Now my luck is back and forth and that 7 years is up, so maybe it's just a myth.

Personally i dont believe in this superstitious nonsense! how can glass stop evil? it doesnt make sense to me. And your noticing that every time glass is broken something bad happens might be simply a coincidence. The most harm breaking glass can do is that if you dont clean up somebody might step on it and hurt themselves!

I do not believe it can bring good nor bad luck. Come on, what's the explanation for this? I don't believe things happens without a good explanation. A good explanation is an explanation that can be proved by others. If no one can show me the proof, then I won't believe. What would a mirror breaking do to you? The mirror will come to your bed at night? No, mirrors breaking do not bring ANY kind of luck. Breaking glass won't bring any kind of luck either.

well, we believe this a lot. I am not scaring you ok? but this is what we believe. it might be something happen in your family or it might be argument or something. We believe if we break too much glasses in the house it might be something wrong or something will happen. to avoid this you have to be careful what you do and what you say. Handle with care to any breakable stuff. And also think good luck and good thing happen. Don't think too much about bad stuff... you will be ok and I wish you good luck.
