We often said past is past. But can we go on without looking back in the past? Admit it or not it is easier said than done. Forget the past and move on, that is what most people often say. But my argument is don't forget the past, it help us to go in the right direction. Would you agree? If not, then tell me why?

Indeed we cant stop our conscious mind from remembering what good and bad has happened in the past. To encourage people to move forward with the right intention by reminding them of the past I would say it depends alot on individual character and maturity at that moment when the past is being brought up, like u said it will do alot of good but it could be otherwise too.

I would say that I agree with you completely. I don't think it's ever really possible (except in cases of psychological disorders) to forget the past. I think people can try hard to do it, but the simple fact that they steer their minds away from it proves that they have not forgotten it.
I do believe you are right that the past helps us to go in the right direction. Life is a never ending learning process. A great deal of what we learn is from the past. It can be someone else's past, or our own trials and errors. But I believe each person's past makes that person who he/she is, and running from the past only means you are running from who you are. And nobody should feel like they should do that. If there is someone has an experience in their past that they would like to forget, I would say to them: you are not your past, you are wiser than your past.

If you don't study history or remember your past , you are bound to repeat it.And life will become a vicious cycle. It is good to remember the past , but not get stuck in it.If you get stuck in the past ,the future will pass you by.

Hello there Vonn1378!
I agree with you, most of us say that the past is the past and we should let it be and move forward but the truth is it is harder than we anticipate.
Then again without the past we wouldn’t be who we are today! We learn from past experiences and from that we make our choices, to say that we can forget the past is completely impossible.
There are some instances where my past comes back to haunt me and I often feel ashamed, but no matter how much it may shame me, I have no choice but to own up to it, to say that I will forget about it and move on is impossible. I have made my share of mistakes in the past and nothing in this life time can ever take them back, rather the only thing I can do is learn from it and continue forward with my life with the will to change and make this better from that point on.
At every stage in our lives the past has played it role and although there are experiences that we are often not proud of, it is from those experiences that we are able to continue along the path we choose today.
Therefore to say that we can forget about the past, is something that I will never be able to achieve.
