euthanasia people vs animals

Why do you think it is such a debate about euthanasia? I, do not necessarily agree with the choice of mercy killing, but why do you think that it is so widely accepted for animals, but not humans? Do you think maybe the animals are a risk to humans when in that much pain, or dying? Or do you think we regard human life as more important than the lives of animals? What is your opinion? Does it make it an easier decision if it is an animal? Do you agree with euthanasia for both? Or are you less likely to agree if it is a human?

Humans are made in the image of God and for that reason you should not murder people. Animals do not have souls, people do. I would never agree with euthanasia for people, it is wrong. Once you get into mercy killing for people, then there is but a small step to treat people as animals. If you read about the Roman Empire and the Nazis, they regarded certain people, the Romans, slaves as sub humans, the Nazis, Jews and people of the Slav races. It was common for the Romans to kill a slave in a most horrific method just as they would kill animals. So if we believe in euthanasia for the elderly or those in great pain, it will take but a generation to use those destined for experimentations and we will be no better than the Nazis or the ancient peoples. We also eat animals, we do not eat people, nor would we do if starvation was threatening, but for those who believe in euthanasia the jump would not be that far. We must not act as savage beasts.

I think people say that animals do not have souls because they do not have the brain power to choose heaven or hell. I think that just as with babie who do not exactly know right from wrong or have the brain power to choose heaven or hell, it doesnt mean that they wont go to Heaven. In my beliefs children until they reach the age of reasoning and have the capabilities to choose heaven or hell, they will go to Heaven and I believe that the same with animals. But that is just what I get from it. =)

Since our animals can be like a family member, it can be a very diffult decsession to make, but doing it for a person is even harder.First of all, how do you know that it is what they wish, unless they have told you that is what they want? I saw a movie, The million dollar baby, with clint eastwood, that shows the exact same thing.

That has always been a strong argument for me, if we have an animal who was suffering we wouldn't hesitate to put it out of it's misery, if I was suffering and had no quality of life I would hope that someone would put me out of my misery, what quality of life would there be? Bed ridden or being eaten away by a cancer for example? Yet we have to endure it, euthanasia should be made legal it is the 21st century after all!

I do think that we place a higher value on human life in general...although individually that may not be true when it comes to our beloved animals....there is a chance of injury to human if the animal is experiencing alot of pain.... I do not like to think about euthanasia for any living thing and have not been faced with that decision.... I spent many years working as a nurse in nursing homes...so gerontology is dear to my heart.... Interesting topic, my friend...

I was thinking along those lines too, an animal in such pain may react to humans in an aggressive manner, I can see your point =)

It should be banned for both humans and animals. We humans don't have the right of taking anyones life.God is the only person who can decide everyone's fate, be it human or an animal.

I agree with you, I am just curious why some say they dont think it should be done to a human and then do not hesitate to put their animal to sleep.
