When I was a child I had a swimming pool at my school. But despite regular lessons I didn't learn to swim. I learned this on a family holiday when I was in the sea. I like calm water to swim in. I do not feel safe swimming in very rough water. My favorite place to swim is in tropical waters, somewhere like the Seychelles that has sea as warm as bath water. Unless I am wearing a snorkeling mask I am scared to swim in very deep water. I go to swimming pools quite often these days. I have done much snorkeling and this involves strong swimming. The first place I did this was on Australia's Great Barrier Reef. I was nervous at first to put my head under the water but it was fine. I felt very safe going into the water from a large pontoon. Seeing the colorful coral and friendly fish was a magical experience. The next time was very different from this safety. I had to climb down from the boat into the sea and swim to an island. Then I swam off again to view the beautiful coral. The boat stopped in very deep water to view more stunning coral. I could feel the sweep of the undertow. It was making me drift around.

You are very brave. I remember how hard it was to put my face in the water the first time. Now I love it! You must have seen some wonderful things and your description is so inviting, that reading it almost makes one feel like being there. I am just learning about this "+" or "-" rating system, but I sure gave your comment a "+".

Yes I can, although not for very long and deep waters. It's a good exercise. I also have fear of being drowned but we have to overcome this so as to enjoy swimming and be good with it.

I took lessons, too, and it was a very very long time before I became confident enough to go in the deep end. Keep practicing, and one day you will know you are ready and then you will go in the deep end and not be afraid any more. However, please do not do this alone, as it is wise to have a reliable swim buddy whenever you swim in deep water.

Yes i can swim, but only on swimming pool. I took some classes in my graduation. That fatso (My swimming master), he never helped me or for that matter anybody. I learned it on my own with hell of difficulty. But that idiot helps girls. I can swim only for few minutes before i take rest as i cant swim continously for longer duration

Okay, I'm ashamed to admit this but no, i can't swim.. :P I've learnt how to swim as a kid and now that I'm older I wish I could swim. It's one of my things to do before I die though; learn how to swim. I'm gonna have my little sis teach me cuz she's a really good swimmer. My boyfriend's gonna teach me as well. :)
