New and Shiny coins - keep it or you use it!?

Especially when Christmas Days, even a mum like me just want to keep it because it is very shiny and look neat, it is very very beautiful, so I keep some and the other I give to my kids, and like me they keep it, But in the end of the day(after weeks or months) I found myself using it, or using it in paying, have you experienced that!? keeping newly produced coins or even BILLS!, when you get here in our country bills are like trash because some crumpled it and their looks and smells really sucks!, So when people here get new bills the one which is somewhat fragile and very smooth, they keep it, but they use it after weeks or months, Have you tried keeping new coins or bills!?^^
