Basically, it was a show that was pretty much ahead of its time. Furthermore, if it wasn't for Star Trek, I don't think the other sci-fi shows & movies, such as Babylon 5, Andromeda, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica would even exist or became popular.
When you think about it, a lot of other things that were shown in Star Trek has actually became reality, such as doors that open automatically when you approach them. It was actually Gene Roddenberry who thought of that. Also, I'm sure that those flip-phones that people carry around were originally taken from Star Trek.

I love it not only because of the things you've said but also the ideas it promotes, a united world, a united alpha quadrant(almost), differences and how it's not an obstacle for people to live harmoniously.

I agree with that about not having to be a living organism to be considered alive. There was one Next Generation episode in which these small computerized machines were built to aid in which the machines were so sophisticated that they did turn out to be living things.
As for women captains, well, it was one of the first in Star Trek in which they had a woman captain in Voyager. However, there have been women captains throughout next Generations & the shows afterwards (Deep Space Nine & of course, Voyager). I only know of one of the original series in which a woman was featured. That was The Enterprise Incident, in which an un-named Romulan commander of those three ships that surrounded the Enterprise was a woman. Geordi LaForge's mother was a ship captain. Captain Rachel Garret of the previous Enterprise (Destroyed saving a Klingon outpost about 25 years(?) prior to the episode that I cannot remember the name of.

I have heard of that, the commander or second in command was supposed to be a woman because gene thought women would approve but instead teat viewer's reactions were--"who does she think she is!" ...finally voyager had a woman for captain, captain janeway. I'm not sure if there were other instances on other series of star trek but on enterprise(the latest),trip got pregnant, the race they had encountered had their males as carriers of their would be babies. Also on voyager and TNG I liked it how they pushed the idea that you didn't need to be a living organism to be considered human or be treated humanly, by that I mean data and the doctor.

I love Star Trek because it showed a world that was mostly over racism, homophobia, sexism, and other isms. It was a great entertainment tool that made people, who were often young, aware of various social justice issues.

well in warp 1 which is the speed of light, you'd have left the solar system in about five hours I think. So mars I'm guessing in less than an hour, ofcourse that's just warp 1.. I read somewhere that when Stephen Hawking(the theoretical physicist) visited the "the next generation" set he stopped beside the warp core, looked at it,and said-"I'm working on that." I wish we could discover peaceful intelligent life out there and soon, if we do then we'd realize we're not alone, and maybe just maybe...world peace would follow..

people seem get along better, the human race isn't psychotically interested in destroying itself. Also there seems to be a lot less isms in the future (sexism, racism, ableism, and so on). I like the social commentary of the show. I hope, by working on social justice as I do, I'm building towards that world.

I love star trek because every time I have watched it when I was in a bad mood, I always put me in a good mood. Now when I am in a bad or sad mood, I look for re-runs of it to cheer me up.

I like Star Trek because, They keep it alive.
Meaning, Star Trek eleven the movie will be released in
November 2008.
StarTrek.com has already posted wallpaper related to the new movie.
The astrological data that came out of all the shows has
been stimulating and inspiring and that is just three reasons....
