What does it take to be a successful engineer?

What are the ingredients that make up a successful engineer. Right now studying at the 2nd year level of my engg study, and typically ambitious of a good job, but still trying to solve the mystery , how to be a successful engineer? How to build up my myself more industry oriented or rather IT Sector oriented?

Hardwork is the key to succes in all fields. Besides an engineer-in-making must have strong analytical skills, innovative mind, and logical thinking etc.. U must have know-how with latest technology inventions and discoveries. Visit Technology Review magazine for such purpose.
Keep in mind that there are many engineers who do better at their college life but are nearly dumb in industry and at practical work. so familiarity with practical world/field must also be aced.
