How much should I charge?

I live in a small town, and know a lot of people who don't have computers. So I was thinking to make some extra money, I could buy and sell for other people on eBay. The problem is, I don't know how much I should charge for my services, above the item or listing totals.

You could set yourself up a nice little business buying and selling things for people via ebay BUT just be aware that any problems which arise will fall on your head and you will have to sort them out. On the other hand you could always set yourself up as a computer business and sell people in your area computers and even get them connected to the net then offer a repair, maintenence, general pc service to your customers make quite a bit of cash doing that you could.

Interesting- I love e-bay and have never thought of this- but then again most people I know e-bay also- I'd charge a % of what it sells for or what the winning bid is when buying- Maybe 2-3%-- see how this works- there is work involved in selling- so possibly higher- are you planning on packaing and shipping also- If so- raise the %-- that is alot of extra work!

I would set it up the same way eBay does. Charge a flat fee for listing the item, and then a percentage of what the item sells for. I would make your listing fee like $3-5 per item, at least, since you have to type in the description and everything. And the percentage could be 2%-5%. I think with a fee system like that, you wouldn't get people trying to sell junk, since they would still have to pay the listing fee even if it didn't sell. Your listing fee would be on top of whatever the ebay charges end up being. I would print out a list of the ebay listing options and costs to give people to pick out he options they want. If they need you to take pictures for them, I would charge a little bit more, like whatever ebay's picture fee is plus a quarter per picture or something. Good Luck.

They have people on ebay that do this for others. I cannot think what they call them though. It is a program you join and your listed in your area. You might search ebay in the seller area and see if you can find out info and get listed there too. People on there usually charge around 2-5% of bid price.

I do this for a friend.... She decides what she wants to get for the item, if selling....anything that is above that figure is mine... When buying, she decides what she wants to pay....if I get it for under that, I get the difference up to what she was willing to pay.... Sometimes I make absolutely nothing, but other times I have made a nice profit.... Perhaps with strangers, you could charge a $5 flat fee, if you havent made any extra?
