Did you know there is now a vaccine out for dogs for rattlesnake bites? I'd never heard about it, so I thought I'd share this with you.
Treating a dog for rattlesnake bite can cost a fortune. It seems it would be better and less expensive to get your pet vaccinated.
I picked up a brochure at our vet's office. If you want more info, go to the link for the company.

I hope this info is useful. :)

Hey Hun, well if I had a dog I guess he would be safe, we dont have any rattlesnakes around here so I reckon if you live in a area that does it would be great. But would you have to be with your dog if he got bit or will the dog have time to make it home and to the vet to get the shot would be my question. Hugs!

You are so silly...:)
It is a shot you get the dog like the other vaccinations. It is supposed to build up immunity so the damage from snakebite would be less.

I hadn't heard of this.
I thought a vaccine was not possible because if one was bitten one too many times and they became tolerant to the anti-venom, then they could die from another bite.
Wow! I am going to have to go read up on this one. :)
Thanks for the info! Even though it is not something I think I need for my dogs...if I should ever have to worry about it, it is something I will then know about.
Thanks again for passing on the info!

The brochure says that the vaccine is safer than treating with anti-venom. It stimulates the immune system.
I don't know about vaccines for other snake types. This one only works for rattlesnakes (at least that's my understanding of the info).
