I don't have to bother with metal detecting to find rare coins...I have some of my own ...don't have a clue how I got them...were handed down to me...but some are from the 1800s!! Wonder if they're worth anything...of course it would depend what would be considered good condition or not.

Coins have many different values but as long as you can see the date it is worth money. Thanks for the response

I am sure that is a wonderful find!! Have ou had it appraised, bet it is worth a lot of money, just for its age value...I would die to find a coin over 300 years old with a readable date from any country. All I have ever found was a bunch of nails from the 1800's not worth a heck of a lot., lol!

I have an old World War coin, a penny that is worth more than a cent, but I have never gotten any. My foster mother had some semi rare coins, but one of her daughters spent them. I remember she was rather angry about that. I suppose I have as much chance of getting any as losing ten pounds in a day.

I'm with you! If we lost ten pounds in a day, I still would not get a rare find...Have a great day!

Antique shops have lots of them. I used to collect old and foreign coins as well as new releases. I have them stocked somewhere in my messy room. I still do keep some special rare coins in my office drawer. I don't want to buy these coins. I acquire them from friends and others I just find. Lately, fake coins are proliferating in our country. You can tell by using a magnet. Fake coins are made of metal and sticks to magnet. I collect these fake coins to keep them out of circulation. Cheers! Happy Posting :)

I don't know how rare they are, but I have some solid silver quarters that I got working retail. Anytime I work in a job that requires exchanging of money, I listen for that telltale "clink" of silver coins. I know it by ear. In one day I pulled 8 out of my cash register. I gave half of them to my mom, because she had some when I was a kid and I stole em and spent them at the candy store. I have 4 or 5 now.

Any quarter before 1964 is worth more because it is silver, they are great to have! Bet mom was happy to get her change back, lol. Thanks for your response!
