India is going through a retail (r)evolution. Like foreign countries organised retail is spreading across the country. Players like Reliance, Birla, RPG(Spencers), Subiksha are opening stores in all the neighbourhood of big cities and are going into the small towns as well.
As counsumers how do we feel about this change,
1.Is it good or bad for the consumers
2.What will happen to the traditional Kirana shop(mom & Pop) stores.
3.Are the political parties(communists) causing a stir for unwanted reasons
4.Will the enrty of Wal mart or Tescos change the way shopping and business is made in India

1. It is good for the customers if there are atleast 3 big players in any segment. It means there will be competition and consumer will benefit the most in cost as well as quality.
2. They will coexist but they will have to change there format. They should start home delivery facilities and other things. At the same time a kirana store next to reliance cannot survive obviously but still if I had a kirana store and reliance came next to me than I would be overjoyed because it makes my shop on a prime location and I can change my shop to sell something else that customers of Reliance would need.
3. Communists I feel are people who themselves dont know what there policies are/should be. They do things for the sake of doing.
4. Well I thing Walmart will have to change itself at the first place. A walmart store in US is a huge store which needs a lot of land which is obviously available 20-30 kms outside from the main city. Now in US petrol is cheap and people go there to get there entire month's ration/whatever but in India customers wont go that far.
