To the Emergency Room .... Again!!

My son just cut his thumb on a can four days ago. I took him to the ER and he ended up with Steri Strips. Now today, I get a call an hour before I get off work to come home pronto. He cut the same thumb, further down. He fell out of bed and cut it on his bed frame. This time he needed stitches. I think the people at th ER think I am slowly trying to cut his finger off!! LOL He is supposed to get the stitches out in 10 days, but in 10 days I start my vacation. We will be very far away. I am going to take him back in 9 days and pray they can take them out then. I hope and pray this is the last "accident" as I can't take anymore, especially with our long awaited trip so soon. So have you experienced any series of "accidents"? One after another, or maybe in the same area?

Woa, that's way too bad. Be careful about your son, you'd better ask someone to baby sit him while you're working. My cousin was like that, he cut his chin and a little time after that he cut his forehead. This is dangerous, be careful about your son! I'm sure he'll get better, and you'll all be going to your Trip.

He doesn't need a babysitter. His father was home. He works day shift, so when I get home, he goes to work. It just happened the kid fell out of bed. No matter what, he was still going to fall out of bed. Thanks for your response.

I know that your son's thumb is ok by now but thought I would tell you how things went at my house regarding the emerangcy roon. I have 4 kids all grown up now. I never took just one kid. Every time one had to go I would end up taking 3 of them. Not all at once but for sure with in a month there would be three accidents of some kind that would need some stitches. some time I despared of them growing up.

I think there must have been some about the number three. Bad things seem to come in threes.

I would be insane... my little guy just got bit by something by his eye and had his eye swollen shut. He never ceases to have something going on. Luckily enough...knock on wood. the eldest has been pretty much accident free.

Oh, the naughty did it again!!?? Do you wanna warn him that if he do it again you won't take him with the trip? Oh no... he won't do it again. He will be okay before the trip. All the best, Mishe...for all of you.

thanks Vasu. I told him he will not be able to swim with stitches, so that kind of upset him. Maybe he'll be more careful now.

Ouch...I confess monkey, I don't like "cut, slash, knife, sword" or anything that's pointed. I can feel my skin crawling and my furs are all zapped up. So you are going to leave me in 10 days :( You son must be having the grandest time with his poor little thumb. Fortunately for me, I haven't had that continuous episode of accidents. I'm wearing a lot of protective shield all around me, lol. Poor boy, it's a good thing he is more focus on the long awaited trip to Cuba rather than playing around his thumb. :)

Yup, in exactly 10 days I will be on a plane. I will miss my favorite bunny, but I know she'll hop into my really really old discussions to post, just to keep my earnings alive..lol. We have resorted to calling my little monkey "Franken-thumb" LOL

Wow that is crazy! I'm glad your son is okay, but what luck! We have a bunch of mini-hospital with my son, but not any recently thank goodness! All of his are usually respiratory issues. Good luck with the stitches!

Thanks, I am glad to hear your son is doing good now. My youngest was in the hospital for 20 days when he was 8 months, they couldn't figure out what was wrong with him. Some sort of respitory distress. To this day, 8 years later, no one has been able to tell me what it was !! Good luck with your son :)

Now that I stay home with him, and winter is over, things have been much better! I'm hoping this winter we don't go through what we did last winter! Thanks for your response ;)

It is always like that misheleen, if we hit one of our toes to some stone or step and get a small cut, again the same toe will get hit next time to take the hell out of us. You have time. I think nine days are more than enough for those stitches to get healed. Otherwise you will get good medical attention in Cuba also. I heard the health care there is excellent. I wish a quick recovery to your son.

thanks Abroji.. yes the medical system is great in Cuba, for foreigners, so we should be ok. I think 9 days should do it too. The nurse thought he would be ok then too.

I have one little boy who tends to be accident prone - he has had several black eyes, stitches, he stepped on a needle and it got lodged in his bone, and he got corn stuck up his nose! Kids! They definately keep you on your toes.

oh dear, your poor son! stitches sound painful. but at that age, probably they are less sensitive about pain? i dunno... some kids run and knock themselves all over and the very next day they are running again. all the best for your trip! a holiday sounds great. i need a holiday...

yes, he'll be fine.. as long as he stops hurting himself..lol. Thanks, I hope you get a holiday soon too.

first off you are in my prayers that he heals and hurts no more so you can be safe on the trip. my hubby had many stitches when he was younger, and my son is A LOT like him, and am afriad we'll be doing all this very soon. some people are just more prone to that than others i guess. i have never had a stitch or broken bone....strange!

I have had stitches, but no broken bones (knocking on wood) I have a feeling I'm in for it with my little one though !!

Not so much from accidents but, I have had all three kids get sick one after another, and then get sick all over again. Very stressfull. I hope your son's thumb heals quickly.

last week my son cut his wrist in art class with a box cutter and i am taking him to get the stiches removed today (they said 7 days). it was very deep. so i am sure 9 days will be fine. i remember when i was a kid i took my own stiches out instead of heading back to the doctor's office.

My boss cut her finger awhile back. It healed up. But then today, she cut her finger again in the same exact place only deeper and longer. It would not stop bleeding. We sent her up the road to the hospital. She got 4 stitches. I think it scared her. When she got back, her hand was numb.

Last fall, my newly turned 15 year old son decided that it was time for momma to make a trip to the ER for an accident. He was mad (he and stepdad had words if you know what I mean) and he went to hit the door in anger. He ended up hitting the door GLASS and in when his hand, glass all over the floor. He then jerked it out and came around to tell me he had broken the window. Next thing I know, his younger sister (who is 9) said 'momma he is BLEEDING' so my hubby took a look at it and I was like 'ok does he need stitches' Hubby said we needed to go to the ER NOW. So off we go---they kept that child BLEEDING for more than 3 hours before they stitched him up. He ended up having stitches in 3 places--his worst was on his wrist. Boys uuuggghhhh
