Do you think that Democrats really want the Iraq War to end?

The Democrat party has tied there parties future on defeat in Iraq. Even if your against American troops in Iraq you have to acknowledge that the Democrat party wins when the USA loses in Iraq. I have been critized before for saying that the D stands for defeat. But do not the Democrats need us to lose in Iraq to win in '08. So would it not be better for the Democrats to keep the war in Iraq and just keep saying they are against the war. Let say what no one whats to talk about, Democrats get what they are talking about and pull out of Iraq, before the '08 election. Iraq turns into a blood bath, and Iran invades Iraq. Could not the Republican turn around and say"We were right, Democrats were wrong". Would it not be better for the Democrats to allow us to stay in Iraq until '08, and then face reality.

not only would the Democrats benefit from "staying the course" but also i really believe the Democrats would not like to see our economy improve...it is a case of sour grapes..since our man is not the president..we don't want to see the economy soar under a Republican..this is why politics is so confusing..you are darned if you do and darned if you don't

True. But the war and the deficit have occurred during the Bush presidency. Whether the Democrats could have done better, or whether you believe these problems are a result of the Clinton presidency, it's not surprising the Democrats blame Republicans for these problems, and that a lot of non-partisan people will also.
I didn't think the economy was so bad, though, and I wouldn't be surprised if there is some economic theory that says a deficit is a good sign. And maybe the current surge in Iraq is working.. So many different ways to look at it, so many different opinions. That's kind of what makes politics so interesting, right, as well as confusing.

This matter of politics and wars amaze me as one minute we have an enemy and they are nasty..the next we have them as allies and we slap each other on the back..like professional wrestling..all fake..
my neighbors are friendly one day..but if some minor innicent happens they will turn on each other like dogs..lol...but same thing in families..such minor offenses get blown out of preportions as there is always more heat then light in the debate..so I just study history to know that war or breeds war..no matter who is in office..Democrat or Repulican..it is the reason why 65% of of the voters don't vote//apathy?

A bit cynical. I'm sure a lot, if not most, Democrats calling for troop withdrawal think it is the right thing do to. You may have a point, though. At the back of their minds they can't be sure it wouldn't turn bad and thus turn bad for them, and winning the next election is their top priority. While the troops are in Iraq they can use withdrawal as part of their platform for election. So keeping the troops there until the election is in their interest.

If I were truly cynical, I might suggest you would like to see Democrats succeed in getting a troop withdrawal and then for a blood bath to occur, as it might help the Republicans win the election.

Do you mean Democratic Congressmen? They really want whatever will get them elected. But real Democrats, non Congressmen, were and are still against the war. The good news is that there are some Republicans, non Congressmen, agree. It won't help either party to keep up this war because both parties will blame each other for the war and a third party could take their votes away. Maybe not for president because you need so much money to run but at the congress level, where the real power is.

I do not think any US politician, either conservative or liberal, wants the war to end. I watched a documentary called "Why We Fight". It made it clear that the lines between capitalism and politics in this country are blurred. Corporations control politicians, and it is in the best interests of corporations that the military-industrial complex is fed. The way to ensure this is to make sure there is a war going on at least once every ten years.

the above topic shows ur very good in analysing the political parties mindset.... iam from india and i feel sorry to say this but the truth is ...we had a kargil war with pakistan it was a prepland war between both countries enacted by the BJP party in india and the pakistani head just to make sure both of them get their roots in power

I would like the war to be over, and the Iraquees start fighting for their country. I think they want the war to be over, I mean who really likes war. They would probably gain more if the war continues because they can continue blaming the Republican. I personally am just fed up with both the Democrats and the Republicans party.

Here is my take on the issue. The war is a reality. The original question was whether the Democratic Party is using the war in Iraq as a strategy? And I would have to conclude that the original poster has a valid argument. Every single comment made by the Dems is to attack, attack and demean the efforts or actions of our President.
You may not agree with any or all of his actions, but the Middle East has been a brewing kettle for decades which was about to spill over at any point.
As for a lie, or false information or deception; so many Americans are self deceived in believing that peace will EVER be gained in the Middle East through talk and negotiations. Direct action is what must occur. Also, those who wish to attack the United States are at a state of war and WILL NOT negotiate. So regardless of how we got into Iraq; the wheels have been set in motion.

I am sorry to write this but I do not think you read this discussion. If you did I hope that you would read it again. Look Bush is a man of principle. Democrats did the war to win more elections. Please Mister Greatest American Heroe READ if that is one of your powers.

Well im not going to respond on your redicilous claim. I think the democrats will win the next presidential election with or without defeat in Iraq. Bare in mind they get invalueable support from you current president. What a tosser he is.

How do you make such a redicilous statment. You just prove that you do not understand the real world. 50% of America has said that they will not vote for Clinton. It will only get worse. To back it worse for the Democrats if they do not stop funding the Iraq war, a bigger anti-war candidate will spring up as a thrid party candidate splitting the anti-war support.

They want to end it for one reason and one reason only, to get votes, many of the Pull out now Democrats were ones that wanted to go into Iraq in the first place. There are only 3 politicians running for president that want to get out of Iraq not for the votes but because its the right thing to do, Dennis Kucinch, Mike Gravel, and Ron Paul. These 3 know Iraq was wrong from the beginning, and didn't vote for it because of that reason. The sad truth about American Politics is both the Democrats and Republicans have the same exact agenda with minor bells and whistles. And there are only a handful of politicians on the two sides that offer a fresh taste including the 3 I mentioned and a couple other congressmen/senators.
