Hello, Geminigirl. It sounds like you are quite interested in learning how to knit. Do you have family members or friends who know how? Maybe they would teach you. Also, if you live near craft stores, they occasionally have lessons. Even better, a yarn shop tends to have gatherings of people who knit who teach other people how to do it. I hope you pursue it because it will give you hours of fun. I have a great time with it. I love knitting bags, purses, scarves, and shawls.

There are alot of good websites you can go to to learn about it and find patterns. http://knitting.about.com/ has instructions for a variety of techniques, including the basics. Knitty.com has beautiful patterns, some simple. For a knitting beginner, I'd start with a scarf or blanket, in plain garter stitch. Good luck!

When I was a child my grandmother taught me how to knit, but I'm ashamed to say that it's a skill that didn't stay with me for long and now I couldn't even cast off. A few years ago I received a knitting scarf kit as a present after I requested it, but I've not even opened it yet although knitting really is something I'd love to be able to do. I was bought a book at the same time, so i really must sit down and take the time to work through it some time soon.

My grandma tried to teach me to knit years ago, but as I'm left handed and she was right handed I found it really difficult. I did get the hang of it eventually and when i was pregnant with my daughter I started knitting her a cardigan. She's 14 now and I've still only managed to complete one arm!!

I borrowed a few books from the library called knitting for beginners, kintting for dummies, easy beginers patterns. And i very slowly painstakingly taught myself. I know i hold the needles wrong and im slow at it but i enjoy it and i'm getting faster.
I knit baby blankets, scarves, baby bibs, lots of dish clothes. I intend to try some slippers and baby booties this summer.
