When we don't sleep enough, it changes the hormones in our bodies. More of the stress hormones (cortisol) are released. Other hormones that regulate appetite don't get processed correctly. Poor sleep also makes our blood sugar all bouncy. The end result it that we become hungrier when we don't sleep enough - the body "thinks" there is stress and danger and it wants to eat what it can. If you are trying to lose weight, one of the most important steps is making sure you get 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night. Try it for a week while you work on diet and exercise.
Happy Sleeping!!

this is so true for me. whenever i lack sleep i feel so stressed out and my face looks haggard. i look sick and i feel sick. i usually lack sleep when my husband goes out at night with the boys (which isn't often...just once every few months). no matter what i do to fall asleep, i can't and i just anxiously wait for him to arrive home. i'm a worry-wart when it comes to my family so i really am unable to sleep unless everybody's safe at home.

sleeping more ...sleeping less - either way it harms your body and mind. I believe that 5 to 6 hours of sleep in the night is sufficient enough for a normal adult.

I was unaware of this. I am perpetually sleep-deprived; I suffer from the kind of insomnia that prevents one from falling asleep. Have trouble shutting my mind off. I try to go to bed early, but I end up laying there for hours trying to fall asleep. It has gotten worse over the past couple of years, and my weight has increased. Interesting and thank you for sharing this.

Yes it is true that the more you sleep, the less you eat and the more you loose weight. We all know good sleep or enough sleep is very necessary for our body. But sometimes we have no choice. The timing of our work , together with the travelling time that needs to reach work and back home, all this keeps person occupied and he is forced to remain awake even if he wants to sleep. Some people are lucky, they don't have to work very hard so they can get their daily sleep of 7 to 9 hours. I hardly get 6 hours to sleep. Even right now I am feeling so sleepy.........lol

This is very true. My hubby suffers from sleep apenea...severe...he stops breathing an average of 111 times per hour. He had gained a bunch of weight. When he was tested for sleep apeana and a CPAP machine was prescribed and he could actually get some quality sleep, he started loosing weight again. Since Jan this year, he has lost roughly 30-40 pounds as he was right about 325 and he is down to 278. Amazing what sleep can do for you.

Getting enough sleep helps keep your body and mind in top shape, making you better equipped to deal with any negative stressors. Because the biological "sleep clock" shifts during adolescence, many teens prefer staying up a little later at night and sleeping a little later in the morning. But if you stay up late and still need to get up early for school, you may not get all the hours of sleep you need.

Really? I didn't know this. I always thought I'll gain more weight if I slept more because that was what I observed. At times when I have really long sleeeeeeeeeeeps, I noticed that I get fat easily. There were also times when I had lots of things to do and couldn't get as much sleep as I wanted to, I noticed that I lose much weight during these times. With the facts that you just revealed to me, I'm starting to doubt the things I believe in. I'll try to observe my body responses more. Thanks for sharing this information.

I can't agree more. lack of sleeping not only can put on your weight but also can cause lots of disease. so wish everybody can have a good night.

I know that sleeping less won't be helpful for losing weight, but i am not sure what the reason is. Now i konw it from you. Thx.I also know that sleeping less will make people old earlier, so i insist in sleeping before twelve o'clock P.M., and do exercise to lose my weight. I feel i am a little fat,so i also want to lose weight, girls always think like this, LOL.
