No way, I cannot read anything when I am in a noisy environment. Either I have to use double effort to focus on the words as hard or I completely don't get what the words are saying (it's like the words are flying away in front of me, I read them but I don't get their meanings). I love to read in a quiet place or in my own room and I find that I could read faster with a better concentration. I hate to be disturbed when I read too because if I take up a book or a newspaper, usually I am so much in the reading mood that I don't want people come and talk to me!

Hey, thts not the perfect atmosphere to read, still I dn't find problems reading in noisy environments. Its hard to find silent places today, and if u r a student u have to stdy in noisy places only, whn u r at school, evrywhr thr is fish market of some sorts. Though i m not a student nemore, i have finished my studies 2 mnths back, but i can recall hw it was all like.
Nowadays, i prefer reading in the silent comfort of my room... Wht abt u dear??

I do prefer reading in a nice peaceful, quiet atmosphere. That way i can lose myself in the book and concentrate on what i'm actually reading, but when needs must as though often do in my household. I can tune out the noise around me. I also tend to find that the more engrossed i am in the book (you know one of those that you just cannot put down)the easier i find it to tune out pretty much everything going on around me, not just noise.

I need complete and utter quiet to be able to concentrate on reading. Even the slightest whisper behind me distracts my eyes and brain from the words on the pages... In fact, I can barely work - period - when I have unsolicited noise around me...

Hi there. For starters it can be hard to read anything in a noisy atmosphere. If Im able to block out the noise, I prefer to read a newspaper... To read a book and get right into it, I need to be in a peaceful surroundings like my garden or the beach...

Nope, I prefer to read my books or magazines in a quiet atmosphere or with the music playing in the background.

I like reading so there is always a book and a newspaper in my bag when I’m going out. In fact I can’t really enjoy the fun of reading when I’m in a noisy atmosphere but very often I could manage to do so. In such circumstance I prefer reading newspaper.
I normally read a book or newspaper when I’m going for a long journey by bus or plane. I do read when waiting in a clinic, a bank or waiting for somebody.

even if i like to read in a silent atmosphere sometimes this isn't possible when my girlie is around so i am trying to concentrate both on her and on the book or magazine i read.luckily i can read also in these conditions, but i have also limits,i couldn't read in a bar or in a disco or in such a noisy place.

If I had to choose, I would pick to read a newspaper in a noisy place. Reading the paper is just reading basically the same news day in and day out. A book takes some level of consentration to really grasp every aspect of it. I stay up after my kids go to bed, 2-3 hours usually, just to get some good reading time in.

I am not sure if it is the noisy atmosphere that contributes to it or it is the boredom of not having anything to do in a moving vehicle...but I prefer reading in public transportations. Haha. I even started and finished The Zahir by Paulo Coelho while reading it to spend time in public transpos going to school.

noisy atmosphere doesn't bother me at all while reading a newspaper or book.i don't care what's going on around me when i've something in my hand to read, until it's a course book, of course ;)!

I don't have a preference, I can read in a noisy place. =)
The noise can annoy you, but if I REALLY am engrossed with my reading material, everything else just doesn't matter.
Studying in a noisy place is a totally different thing, though but I guess that's an answer to another question! =)

i dont consider the atmosphere around me while i'm reading..if i started readingm,i'll forget everything around me..so silent or noisy atmosphere,i wont consider it..when someone call me while reading,i never hear to it..tat is i'm reading with full concentration, hence i complete many pages in less time...

I have a very hard time reading when there is noise around me. I can sometimes listen to music while I read, but sometimes I have to turn that off as well. I prefer to read when it is quiet and there are few or no distractions.

i does not matter where 'm reading anything. as long as 'm reading it. because when i start reading a book i usually forget the world around me and get totally absorbed in the book i'm reading. newspapers and magazines are another case but i still don't mind reading them in a noisy atmosphere.
