Hi Lakota. My sister and her family plans to live in New York but her husband will be the one to move there first. He did say that the cost of living in an apartment will run at that amount. I'm not sure how they will get by but he was employed by a large engineering company. I do hope that they can afford that kind of amount. I would be terribly upset if I will learn in the future that they might start having problems where to find a much affordable place to live.

I just learned that my brother-in-law will be paid $3000 a month. So, I do hope he can find a suitable place for my sister and niece.

$2K and $4K? That's about average in NYC. I've heard of a family renting a place at about $8K.

I would really like to know what they work at to make that kind of money then I would pay off my place here in Las VEgas! and it wouldnt take long at that kind of money!

Many work for the city, utility companies, entertainment industry, Wall Street, etc. $8K is a drop in the bucket for a couple that's clearing 6 figures each annually.

Lakota, this is on Manhattan, away from Manhattan prices are lower. Many people I know share their rent or travel from New Jersey to work in NY....

To rent or to own, I like the idea of owning and being responsible for my own property, right now I'm in the middle of both. Because of the lie of the detective my life has changed and I need to expose that lie. I'd love to visit New York or better yet, I was just down on City Line Avenue in Philadelphia, I'd love to visit City Line Avenue to have some studio time to expose the corruption and how a lie can damage a family. I have the goods, that is the proof and facts of how a lie was told, I just need a good interview. I am living with my wife who rents from her employer at a really good rate half what the mortgage for our house is. So I'm in a bit of a situation, at least for now or until I can afford to turn the circumstances and make the world a much better place. Certain lies should not be allowed to exist and thrive. I could get real political about this... The housing market is political isn't it? ;)

I do beleive so it being political housing For they keep telling us here to conserve water but they keep letting builders build and I think they should have put a stop to it and leave some of the land to nature. Like the poor rancher up in the north of town raises cows and hog been there for over 60 years but the developers have built housing all around him and tehn the people complin that it stinks he has fought tooth and anil to keep what land he has left and so far is keeping it! I dont think it stinks I think it smells like the country where there are ranches with no houses around them. WE have ove 3 million people in this valley I do beleive that is big enough for any place . A town in Montana think it is Great Falls have stopped the building along time ago said they had enough people and houseing for all that wants to live there. oh please dont get politcal it would take for ever for me to read it. Blessings

This is the type of thing that is happening here in the UK too honey! Our house has more than doubled in value since we bought it 7 years ago! The only problem is by the time we paid off the remaining mortgage on our house we still would not be able to afford another house! I do not know how people can afford to pay for their houses - I mean you are going to struggle to buy any house where we live now for less than $180, 000. The world really is going mad! xxx

We haven't been able to do any work on our home since we got it - apart from painting and putting in a breakfast bar and laminate floor, or at least my brother did!- as we couldn't afford it - last year we were told it had doubled and it has probably raised since then! What do you do? Stay put - no other option! xxx

It does seem ridiculous when you think of the rent in straight dollars and cents. But like everything else in life everything is relative...as is supply and demand. Housing is at a premium in many large cities because of the shortages. Properties and rental scales are always way less in less populated areas. I know that from experience. The 2,000 sqaure foot house we live in would be worth 10 times what we paid for it...and that I am not inflating the numbers. The city we left has a population of over 750,000 and where we are has 1,000. So yes it may seem absurd in one way...but people in New York make a much larger income...so as I said before...everything is relative to where you are.

yes it s cheaper to live in a small town but that just floored me to see that and I was wondering also if they are cold water flats at that price! THis house has doubled in price since we bought it 8 years ago. The bottom might fall out sometime then the people with high payments will wonder where their investments went.

And I have been complaining about the rents going through the roof here! A 1-bedroom apartment can go from $500-$600 and sometimes that is without utiilties. Of course it depends on the location. If you are looking for a house to rent a house it can be anywhere from $800-2,000 a month without utilities. The only people who can afford rents that high are professionals.

It all depends on where you live and what you do for a living. There are some places that are around a thousand a month but you aren't going to be living near the city. Some people opt to live in NJ and take the train in or use the subway system. You can rent a three bedroom house in Queens for about $1,500.00 a month instead of paying 2K for an apartment in the city.

Yes I know this but that is still awful high t orent ya can buy a house for that kind of payment. I lived in COngers for awhile 19 miles out of the city and we paid I think it was $150 a week for a studio Which wasnt to bad and we were there about 6 months befor the job ran out and we left in January in a snow strom lol

Rent and house prices in Australia have also become ridiculous. But people have so much more money too. They don't just pay more rent they have the lifestyle to go with it...the clothes, hair, car, phone, holidays, entertainment...you name it, they have it. Some folk really live high off the hog. Even in country areas it's now common to have fancy hair treatments and beauty treatments, new cars, etc. Even if I had the money, I wouldn't go in for "Having" all this sort of stuff. I'd fix my house up, make it comfy and travel.
