A few weeks ago my grand daughter coloored the back of her daddy car with a blue crayon. As his brother was cleaning it off before daddy saw it he asked her what was she thinking ? Mind you she is 2 1/2 years old . She replied Im suicidal,. We found out later that she likes a song called beautiful girl with this word in it. But how she knew to use it then and if she understands what she had said we have no idea

Wow that is quite a powerful incident for a 21/2 year old. It might be interesting to ask her to draw some more pictures and let her share word associations with you. Drawing and chatting in a safe emotional environment is something many counselors do with children of that age. It could just be something within the song...or maybe she is attempting to share something else. Little ones are very intuitive by nature...they are often aware subtlties that adults miss. As we get older society tends to 'condition' us in their own image whereas children's perceptions are more aligned with energies, impressions, intuitions etc.

It might just be the association with the words to the song...as one other member said. Or maybe she is 'intuiting' something but doesn't quite know what she is picking up on. Not to worry I am sure it is just another one of those...'kids say the darndest things' moments. Keep us posted. We'll be chatting again real soon...we always do. Best, brightest blessings

I found it really hard when my children were growing up as we are a church going family, and the last place you want to hear your child swear is at church. My eldest son would always go with his grandparents and sit with them while I got other kids ready. His grandad played in the band and my son would try to 'play the drums' this day his grandad asked him to come off the drums and sit down next to his grandmother, just as I arrived with the other kids I heard him say, "I bl--dy well won't sit down there with her" he was 3yrs old at time and had just started kindergarten. I also have had times when one or other have come out with words that they use in the right place, and you wonder where on earth they got it from. My way of stopping the potty mouth was to say to them "do you know what it means and do you know how to spell it". "NO" usually was the reply and I would then say "well until you know what it means and know how to spell it, you will not say it", and it worked every time, they still remember to this day and use it with their own children.

that is good advice I always washed my kids mouth out with soap if the continued a word after I told them it was bad. and am just trying to figure here how she knew to use it after crayoning her dads car.

Indeed music is a powerful medium and could move people into actions portrayed in the song.

Sometimes kids just say things that they think are funny. Not really knowing what it means. I have 3 kids and really try to watch what they are exposed to but sometimes they pick things up and you have no idea where it came from. I think as long as you try to get your kids to understand that certain language in unacceptable then they won't turn out bad. No matter what anyone else says in this society. You know your kids better than anyone else so do what you think is best. After all that spill I thought I should let you know something funny my son said to my husband. My son is 3 years old and he went to his daddy while daddy was eating something but had put it down for a minute and said "Are you going to eat that or what?" it was so cute!!!! Just thought I'd share. Kids can be so cute!!!!

If there were a book that everyone could add to when they heard a child say something out of the blue wouldnt it be so funny. I have 3 little ones 2,4,and 6 years old and they can come up with alot of different things.

..wow! That would be sort of shocking to hear a tyke say.. even though, of course they don't mean what the words are saying.. It just seems like it would slow ya down and make you think (about life, or something) after hearing that!:)

It is sad what our children are exposed to now a days as far as language and other negative things are concerned. There is too many dirty or bad words being used in music and on tv shows. It seems like society does not care what our children hear or watch on tv anymore. How old is your granddaughter? I hope that she does not understand what the word means.

To children that age, words are just sounds. They have not developed mentally enough to associate meanings with words. They just say what they hear. That's why it's important to monitor what small children hear, because we never know what is going to come out of their mouths.
