It was my Mam and Dad's 68th wedding anniversary last Saturday they are 88 and 89 year old, Most of you know that they both have Alzheimer's and both still live in their own home, they don't like anyone else looking after them, so mu hubby myself and my youngest son Ross go down there all the time, we take them for groceries and we go for drives in the car,
Anyway on Saturday we went down with cards ( Ross and I made ours and put our poems in ) then we went for a drive along the East coast of Scotland, we went to St Andrews ( in Fife shire),it was such a beautiful day, you would have thought we had put a special order in, it was glorious sunshine . we stopped at Elie for a wee while on the road home then came back round the circle through Fife again, on the way we listened to a spacial CD Ross had made for them, all wedding songs and anniversary ones and love songs from their time, we all 5 of us sang the songs for almost 4 hours, .
On the way home I suggested going to a local restaurant for a meal to finish the day off, we had a brilliant day, it was what I call " A Making Memories Day " it was so lovely, I took some pictures in Mums before we left, I am posting one here, I just wanted you all to share that day with me, God Bless you all xxxx

Thank you for sharing that with us, you have a wonderful family and it is lovely to see how you are so close. I stopped off at St.Andrews on the way back down the East Coast, I tried to get a place to stay there but it was very expensive and exclusive, Sounds like you all had a fantastic day indeed big hugs xxxx

Oh you sure know how to bring tears to a persons eyes but they are all good ones. You are so lucky to have your parents with you still. My father passed when he was just 59yrs. young and my mother was 69 yrs. young. Yes, sounds like the day was made special for all of ya'll to enjoy that day.
Do you mind if I ask if their alzheimer is in the early stages or more advanced? I sure hope they were able to know what all was going on and enjoy it all with you, your hubby and your very special son. Too bad we can't all hear the songs that Ross did for them.
I hope there are many more years of memories to be made with you and your parents.

I really do admire you. You are such a strong and a very good hearted person. Do you know how many people would NOT do what you and your family are doing? So many now days would just stick their parents in a home and just go visit them when they had "time". You already have so much on your plate and still you put your parents right up there with the others. I wish I still had my parents so I could cherish them and make more memories also.
Take care my friend.

It sounds as if your perfect day was just that, perfect. I could use a day like that myself. Your parents are fortunate to have you, your husband, and Ross. I am glad that you took pictures as well. It sounds like the kind of day that you never want to end, and the pictures will help it live on. I can just imagine the heartfelt singing in the car. Ross is very thoughtful.

Wow, 68th anniversary! That's fantastic, and it is especially fantastic that they can still live in their own home with Alzheimer's. My parents will be celebrating their 53rd anniversary this year. We made a cd for them for their 50th aniversary, and I know that they just loved it.

What a lovely photo of your parents on their 68th wedding anniversary; they are an inspiration to us all. It sounds like you all had an amazing day when you took them out in the car to St Andrews; you all went to so much trouble to make it a perfect for them, particularly with the CD Ross made specially for them of love songs from their time. Like you say - a "Making Memories Day". You are truly blessed as a family. xx

That is so special, weemam, and what a lovely looking couple they are. Your family is so blessed to still have them both to enjoy. You did a very nice thing in honor of their anniversary. It would be so nice if all children showed their parents this degree of love and affection. You're the best!

You're a good child. I know your parents are very proud of you. Just continue your good deeds with them and you will be rewarded. There are few people like you nowadays. Some just let their parents stay in home for the aged and sometimes don't visit them even once a month only. Some don't bother to ask how they are doing there anymore. They left them their until they die. But your parents are so lucky to have you. God bless you always. ;)
