I first got rats as feeders for my snakes, but I just dont have the heart to give them to the snakes. All of my rats love to pay with me. When I go to put in food in the 55 gal tank they love to pull it out of my hand. I have about 45 rats and never have been bitten. The mother rats can be alittle protective but what mother would not be. I can handle the babys but if my other half trys they chase his hand out of the tank. I have one that is hairless that is so ungly that she is cute. LOL My rats love to come out on the sofa and play with my cats. All of my pets get along with each other, the way it should be.

I think 45 rats is a little too much for me. But I know what you mean. I can't stand the thought of giving live rats or mice to a snake. Rats do make awsome pets. I can't have one right now because of where I live but someday I'm defently going to get one. I went to an agricultural school and ended up spending most of my time in the small animal room with the rats! Its an awsome thought that you found something you love by accident. What pet stores do you usually sell to? Are most of your rats white or are some colored? I've noticed that most pet stores are only selling albino rats and mice latly.

My rats are not white rats. I no longer sell to pet stores for food. I sell to people that want pets and that would take care of my rats. I have other animals as well.

Whoa! SOunds like you've got quite the animal kingdom going on over there! :D Well, if you don't have the heart to feed them to your snake, then you might want to consider giving the snake back or to someone who doesn't have a problem with feeding it..... I guess it depends on whic pets you enjoy the most! But they all do have to eat! ;)

The good thing about my snakes is, I can goto the supermarket and buy a 10 lb bag of chicken. I stick the chicken in the microwave for about 1 minute just to warm it up and the snakes love it. I now sell the offspring of my rats to the local pet store who sells them as pets.

Well I never get attached to the rats or mice that we breed. We breed them for our snakes as well as wholesale(live or frozen). We breed snakes so in the long run it was alot cheaper to start breeding our own and now we sell our excess to pet stores as well as anyone who uses them for feeders or pets.

I know it took me a long time to get back to you. Of you read my posts you will find that I was in a car crash. But back to what I was going to say. It is hard not to become attached to my rat for me. I have never been bitten by any of them other then by the mother rats. The baby rats run to me when I put my hand inside the cage. I just love it. I to sell them as pets. I by frozen rats for my snake. But you know for some reason, I don't have that much trouble giving my snake the white rats.
