Don't you just hate suck ups?

I have this class that requires us to be in groups for workshops and stuff. And there's this group that really annoys the hell out of me and my group mates. They are a talented group, I admit that. But it's just their sucking up to our teacher that's driving us crazy.
Flattery kind of works with our professor. For me, it's okay to tell your prof that she looks nice in that dress from time to time. But they do it every time! About a million times per session. And that's a 3-hour class. And they're really loud and they laugh loud and they keep on shouting out jokes and stuff. I mean, yeah, it's cool that there's comic relief and all, but it's just really really annoying if overdone. And believe me, they're way past overdoing it.
I mean, okay, it's their personality. So we can't really tell them to change it, right? So how do you deal with this stuff? Me, I'd just like to study real hard and come up with better stuff with my group mates and show them that we don't need to suck up to our prof to get an A.

Yes I do, with a passion. It seems that suck ups don't stop their sucking up ways after school ends either. In our workplace we go through bosses like toilet paper. There is a core group of boot lickers that always crawl up you know where on each new boss. The rest of the staff just laugh and point at them and laugh more.

Ha ha ha! Oh man. I just had a mental picture of the people I was talking about doing what you said. I guess they'll be like that, if they don't end up being the bosses.

Wow that is wonderful and I so agree with this...
"Me, I'd just like to study real hard and come up with better stuff with my group mates and show them that we don't need to suck up to our prof to get an A."
That is how I feel, I don't want to have a friend or buddy teaching me, I want a teacher who will correct mystakes so I can better myself.
Have you tried to approach your teacher for a one on one and exsplain how these people are distracting for not only you, but many I am sure? It really isn't for you to take care of, but her, she is to be in control of the room and students. Maybe if you talk to her, she will do something about it.

Thanks! :) Well, I haven't talked to my prof yet. They don't really ruin the "learning experience" for us. We still learn a lot. And sometimes they do ask sensible questions. It's just the sucking up, really. I did have those people as classmates, the same prof, last semester, so I'm kinda sued to them. But still, there are times that they get on my nerves. I can't really do anything about it because it's part of their presentation. Besides, the prof doesn't give them extra points even though they suck up so that's okay. She just gets flattered.

Wow, yeah, that must be really annoying. You don't flatter your way through life, and I have no respect for people who do.
With my teachers, I never flatter them. I work hard, and usually, I'm all business.
Unfortunately, I don't see any conceivable way you can stop them and change their ways. I'm sorry to say it, but I guess all you can do is to put up with it.

For me, it depends on what kind of students they are. If they are sucking up their way for a grade, then that's not right anymore. But if they are sucking up and they are very career driven, I think there is nothing wrong with that. I think it is probably in their own system. As long as he/she still works hard for her studies and no injustice will occur just because he/she is sucking up then that's fine with me. :-)
