This is bugging me so much. My daughter has a friend who is trifling, a mother of two kids, and isn't doing anything with her life. She has somehow talked this man whom she met over the internet into sending her over $4,000. How is this possible? I told my daughter that I hope her friend hasn't gotten herself into a mess with this situation. She has never met this man. How does this sound to you?

It sounds too good to be true and you know what they say about that?
I am willing to bet that her friend has either fallen for one of those scams where they send a fraudulent check or has gotten herself into perhaps an even worse mess.
If it is a check, I hope there is someone that can somehow convince her not to cash it. With all the publicity about this sort of stuff, she may have trouble finding a bank even willing to cash it.

As far as I know, sid, it is a done deal. Check received and cashed. I think she had him send it to her father's home. It still sounds very risky to me.

Exactly how I feel, mummymo! My daughter knows better than to get involved in something like this, and anyway she does not use the internet at all.

I am familiar with these types of scams, naty, but You'd better believe that if a man was bold enough to ask me for money he would quickly be put in his place. This woman knows how to work the internet though, and I don't think it is her first time doing something like this. I just hope it doesn't backfire on her.

Wow, sending someone $4,000 is extremely risky and even more so over the internet. I dont know how good a relationship, if any, the two people in question have but how well can they really know each other if its just over the internet?
I certainly would never send anyone any money over the internet no matter how well i thought i knew them.

That is what's so strange about this. I just don't see it happening unless the man is terminally stupid or a sucker for a sad story.

Sounds like its some form of con, or the guy is expecting something special in return. Either way, I'd be willing to be this won't end well.
I mean I have heard many a heartbreak tale of not having any food for the kids, or being close to being evicted and needing x amount of cash NOW-- in fact some of the scam artists didn't remember they had talked to me weeks or a month earlier and hit me up twice with different deadlines.
So, my first instinct is that something fishy is afoot.

You are so right, pallidyne, and this young woman has 2 little girls. I can see no way that a woman can ask for thousands of dollars(sight unseen) and receive it. Sounds shady to me.

Unfortunately there will always be scammers like this woman, and there will always be vulnerable, naive idiots prepared to send money. I would be inclined to tell your daughter to stay well clear of this woman now, she will find hereself in very deep trouble soon enough.

I don't know about her not doing anything with her life...she is raising two children. That's not an easy job. I've been there, I've raised 3 kids with alot of financial difficulties, alone. It is scary getting money from a stranger...I'd wonder what the stranger wants in return from her. People just get desparate, sometimes. I don't know her full story, of course. There's always two sides. Maybe the guy is legit, and is a very giving and generous guy. I've met a few like that. I do wish her luck.

Holy moly....$4,000!! How in the world did she manage to do this prey tell? What kind of shady deal is going down here...Even my friends couldn't give me four thousand bucks! Not even a hundred!

I think it is absurd. Well, I guess guys are easier to fool huh? It is not the first case. I have heard these so called mail order brides asking for money from men in singapore so they can fly to singapore and marry them. But once the transaction is made, they are never heard from again. Tis a strange world we live in.

In my opinion it sounds very out of the ordinary. This man may be trying to lure this woman in with money, and then be able to get her in the right position to meet with him.
There are too many predators on the internet. There is no telling what he may want from her. Who knows, maybe, BIG MAYBE, he does care for her by just meeting her online, but more than likely he has other motives behind sending that much money to her.

Uh Oh she sounds like she is trying to get money out of this man for nothing, might be conning him too. Hmm I would be very weary of this and hope that your daughter stays well out of her friends business.

Frankly I will never give money to strangers online but im a part of singlesnet and its a dating site and all of thsese women are scams they write there from your country then in an email they say there from nigeria and they act all nice and make you fall in love with them then they ask for money to be with you and once you give them the money you never hear from them again I personally never give them money but ive read a lot of people who have so thats an easy way that man give money which is a shame.
