Aaaah! That is extremely cute - bats are real sweeties, so I'm not surprised they purr. And, unlike cats, they're unlikely to turn around and scratch your face when they get bored with being stroked, I suppose :-)

I have never heard of purring bats. In fact, I don't think I have heard of domesticated bats? Does this mean people keep them as pets?
How do they look after them? In a cage?

they used to sell fruitbats as pets, but not anymore.
bats are a protected species in the UK.
the tame bats I've encountered were a very tame fruitbat who was at a local county show, and leaned against the bars of his enclosure for a fuss, and two little pipistrelles with one wing each.
they could still fly, but clumsily, so they weren't re-released.

I didn't know this.. I haven't been that close to a bat though. When we were kids, at dusk we used to stand in the fields behind our house and whistle. The bats used to swoop down towards our whistling sounds. The flew very close and you could feel the draft from their wings, but never hit us at all. :-)

I have never heard of domesticating bats until now. this is very interesting I always assumed they were too wild to be trained like hawks or falcons.
