System restart when downloading software

Why does my system restart every time I try to download an antivirus program? I'm using windows XP. I think my computer has a virus, but I can't seem to download any antiviral programs off the net. Can anybody help me?

your pc maybe infected with viruses, as far i know when virus will be terminate any of antivirus installation (autoclose setup, reboot, regedit disabled). Try to boot into safe mode first, remove unidentified program that automatically run then try to install antivirus.

Try using this online virus scanner: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ It will find and remove viruses and other malware on your pc. When your computer is clean install a free antivirus program such as AVG Free plus a free antispyware program such as Spybot and you should be relatively safe. Btw computer virus is a Microsoft Windows related problem. Linux users don't need antivirus programs. If you ever get tired of worrying about computer viruses try one of the free linux systems, such as Ubuntu or SuSE.
