I was just reading the news and came across the story of Adam, a 3 month old kitten that is fighting for his life. Apparently when he was 8 weeks old, a farmer had trapped a bunch of kittens that were loose on his farm in one of those cages and was going to have them spayed and neutered and then realsed back on his farm. Well the cage of kittens got stolen. Now here's where it gets ugly... a 10 year old boy and his friend saw smoke behind their apartment complex and heard a kitten crying, they went to see what it was and found this poor kitten in it's cage on fire with two 15 yr old girls standing by an laughing. The boys called for help. The two girls had poured a flammable liquid over the kitten and the cage, set him on fire then stood there to watch and laugh. He still has raw patches with no skin and is fighting for his life. The vet taking care of him is doing so for free however it's still going to cause upwards of $20,ooo to keep treating him and keep him alive. The two girls now face animal abuse charges. Some citizens of Sonoma County, California at the amount of press coverage the kitten is getting saying a 16 yr old boy was murdered there last year and did not get as much coverage. You can read the story here... http://comcast.net/news/index.jsp?cat=GENERAL&fn=/2007/07/18/717977.html
This made me cry, it angers me to no end and scares me too. I would never, ever in a million 'effin years harm an animal on purpose. When I was 15 and bored, you know what I did? I freakin read... imagine that. I get so angry at the fact that I've noticed so many of today's kids have no value for life at all. Now yes I know there are many children who do and I comend their parents. But I've noticed an alarming number of children, teens especially, who have no care or concern or value for the meaning of life. I think it really is partially to do with all the violence on tv and in video games and online that they are exposed to. Wow, now I sound old, lol. But seriously, if you are constantly watching violence, playing violence, listening to violence, well no duh... you're gonna be inclined towards violence. And I hate to be the finger pointer but where in the hell are the parents when their children are obviously unattended and setting animals on fire? Now I understand that every situation is different and maybe they had single parents. But that's not an excuse, I'm sick and tired of people blaming bad parenting on being a single parent. I was raised by a single mother who worked 3 jobs and still had time to teach me the value of life, spend quality time with me and guess what... I'm not a violent little monster. I just don't get it. Studies have shown that nearly 100% of serial killers tortured animals as children and teens. That's a pretty serious statistic to me and I think that more people should wake up to that fact.
Maybe this was better posted in parenting but I can't paste yet so it stays here.
My heart goes out to that little kitten and it's litter mates who have yet to be found. Nobody knows what they did with the other kittens.

i read that news and it reminded me of a one case that happened in Tallinn, Estonia. It was in spring time. The story is that a 13 year old girl had some friends at her home and there was two girls who took her cat to the bathroom, boured the cat ober with some liquid (unfortunately it burned her hair and skin) and tried to drown the cat. Both of the girls were 13 and after the story came out they braged about it in rate.ee (wich is a popular site for teenagers in estonia).
Two days ago there was a news bulletine about a man who put two kitten in a bag and was beating them. Lukily someone saw that and called the police. Now he is faceing criminal charges which i think is right. No one should have the right to do something like that.
Today i had another bad suprise whol reading news. A 19 year old girl thrw a to months old puppy out from the second floor window and she also is faceing criminal charges.

charges are a joke.....I have a cat who when i was sick, kept me company in bed, shes the best. I care more for her then most people.......if I caught someone doing that to a cat or dog or whatever.....I wouldnt call the cops, I would take the law into my own hands. society and the laws are too gentle to these losers. I would make sure they never did it again and I would make sure that they spent at least a week in the hospital recovering and reflecting on what they did

It's really sad to hear of all of those cases. I'm glad they are all facing charges for their crimes against animals.

also...I dont take animal cruelty lightly...if someone killed my pet, or hurt one of my two cats, they would be dealt with in a similar manner. Anyone capable of hurtuing a denfecnless animal like that needs to be eliminated, thats how serial killers get their start....those two creeps who burned the cat are destined for jail or if I was anywhere near them, an early trip to a wheel chair

I am a major animal lover and this makes me cry. I Have 2 cats and 4 kids and even tho my kids have torchured our cats it has NEVER been to the extent of hurting them on purpose. It has only been that my kids wanted to hold the cats when they want to be left alone.
Those girls she NEVER be allowed to ever own a pet for the rest of there lives as just 1 punnishment. Then again I dont think any kind of punnishment will ever be enough.

That is so true, they shouldn't be allowed near animals or small children for that matter. It's normal for kids to bug their pets, like you said when they want to always hold or pet them when the animal isn't feeling so social, lol. Send your kids to my house, I've got a cat that can't get enough holding or petting! Sometimes I think I'll have to hire a petter. It's a totally different thing however when kids go crazy on the animals and harm them on purpose, I fear for who they'll grow up to be.

OMG i can't believe those a$$ho1es, they deserve to go to prison for a LONG time. You can tell kids that do that are gonna grow up to be killers/criminals. Thats a sick thing to do, let a cat on fire. I can't believe they didn't have any kindness enough to just help it.

It breaks my heart when i hear about stories about animal torture. I am a very empathetic person and i love and respect all creatures great and small (i'm scared of spiders and sharks but i respect them). Studies have shown that if you are not shown empathy between the ages of 0-7 then you will not have empathy in your adult years. Those two 15 year old girls who stood by and laughed while the poor defenseless little kitten was burning in pain, obviously do not have an ounce of empathy in their bones. I have met people who have very little empathy and it's sad, because it's too late for them, it's not something you can learn to have in your older years, you have to be shown it at a very young age to have it yourself.

Stuff like that makes me sick. What the hell is wrong with people. Seriously. And haven't they ever heard of Karma? There is no way you can be that vicious and expect life to treat you well. My mother was a single mother on and off and I'm not a cruel person. My mother taught me compassion. If those were my kids I would have beaten the crap out of them.

Exactly what I'm saying. So many people use that as an excuse and really it's not. If anything it made me a kinder person not an evil one.
