To place bets on games of chances and expecting that all our monetary problems will be gone if the jackpot will be won is I think a dream. The chance of winning substantially, that can wipe out our credit card debts or can buy us a dream car is so very nil. So many lives were ruined because of habitual gambling. But placing an extra money to the evening's lottery and hope for the best is not that bad. Let us say, it is gambling with a little conscience. The placement of our extra savings in games we know that our odds of winning is high is quite acceptable. Just make sure that the money we place on our bets are our EXTRA and not the ones allotted for our subsistence.

i play cards like a little form of gambling, but as you said... with a conscience. i only play cards with my father, brothers or brothers in law or sometimes my sisters and sisters in law. just within the family. it is our family's agreement to only play against family members so that it isn't that painful when you lose and when you win, you can share the winnings with the nephews and nieces... a snack or something.
i don't play lotteries where chances as you said is nil. it's like one in 5.5 million chances in our local lottery in my country.
