I am near-sighted, but I don't want to wear contact lens because I think it has a higher possibility to be harmful for the eyes. If it's necessary, I prefer to wear glasses rather than contact lens. Some people wear contact lens just want to look cool, because the contact lens have different color. So you can have blue eyes, green eyes or even red eyes anytime you like. But I disagree with it.

I somewhat agree with you on the fact that they might be trouble-some. I tried them for a while and I had a problem of dryness in one of my eye. As you said I am very comfortable with my glasses. but sometimes you got to where contact to look different or while wearing sunglasses.

Yeah you are right i have also heard in news that due to some problem in solution it is risky to have contact lenses. People wear contact lens for comfort but if it is going to harm eyes it is very dangerous. Eyes are very vital for life without eyes everything is black no matter how much money and wealth we have.

What you heard about was a batch of contaminated solution, I believe it was Botulism. Also there are some allergies to particular brands of solution. It just itches alot though, usually isn't life threatening. I know this first-hand XD. I don't think eyes are necessarily vital though... Think of those who are blind from birth... It's sad, but a reality.

my sister wears contact lens but she has eye glasses as well. we are both singers but she lives abroad. it is a big no no to wear eye glasses during work so she wears contact lenses but the plain ones only. she dont wear that just to be cool she wears it because she has poor eyes sight. but when at home and going out with friends she wears eye glasses. but she wears contact lenses on hot sunny day so she can wear sun glasses to protect her eyes. in every person using contact lenses has different reasons.

You can go for daily disposable lenses (soft lenses). These are 7 hour one-time wear contact lenses that come packaged in saline solution, you just pop them in at the beginning of the day then throw them away at the end of the day. You just basically put a new pair of lenses in every day.

Hi youless! I have no problem yet with my vision but if I have to choose between contact lens and glasses, I will be wearing glasses instead. Just imagine the cleaning procedures you have to do for the contact lens to maintain it. Though I could look prettier (probably) having blue eyes or violet or green or whatever, I will stick with my color. Anyway glasses come in different cool designs nowadays, and it could enhance your face as well. And I guess, you're right in saying that there is a higher possibility it can be harmful to the eyes. Have a great day!

There are products on the market such as Daily Disposable lenses, these are one-day wear lenses that you put in, in the morning and simply throw away at night. There is no need to mess about cleaning them or with solutions or anything as they are only one day wear ones. They also tend to work out cheaper as you do not have to buy solution to clean the contact lenses.

I wear contact lens sometimes. Normally I wear my glasses because of allergies. Allergies make my eyes feel gritty and the contact lens just make that more uncomfortable. Other than that I would wear contact lens all the time.

I don't wear contacts either. I'm supposed to wear my glasses when I drive and stuff, but I don't usually wear them either. My eyes aren't that bad. He said they were barely bad enough to even give me a prescription. I always thought about getting the colored contacts. I've seen some really cool halloween ones.

I work at an opticians and coloured lenses possess no more of a health risk to you than any other lenses, it is only when you abuse the use of them e.g. improper wearing time and incorrect cleaning that you may encounter problems. I would personally recommend not purchasing the coloured lenses from the internet or anything but purchasing them from an Opticians so you can book a contact lens fit and they can show you how to care for the lenses, how to put them in correctly as too prevent any damage to your eyes

I wear both glasses and contact lenses. I usually wear my glasses though. I hadn't even worn contacts until a few weeks ago since high school. I just always preferred glasses. Although in the summer I like the contacts because my glasses are thick and black and make my face sweat, plus I don't like getting a glasses tan lol
I wouldn't get the contacts that change your eye color because I like how my eyes look and I find them to look kind of fake, especially if someone chooses a color drastically different from their natural one.

I don't wear contact lens at all because my eyes are way too dry. I tried one time and my eyes were really uncomfortable with them. I prefer to wear glasses and I am really used to my glasses anyway. I just don't like the fact that something is sticking right to my eye balls. And for those color contacts you mentioned, I have talked to the professional and read from the news that they are not really safe. It's fine to wear them for fun or very occasionally, they are not for long-term usage. They would gradually hurt the eye balls.

Hi youless..just a little input on your discussion...I was an Optician for more years than I'd like to count, lol..however...with today's research and offerings in contact lenses, there is little to be concerned about as far as hygiene...I would hope everyone washes their hands before they go poking around in their eyes..but there are lenses now made to be worn for one day and thrown away!! No Maintenance needed!! The Industry has come alot farther along than most people realize...there are bifocal contact lenses, lenses to accomodate astigmatic corrections, colors, as you mentioned, and much more!! As far as eyeglasses are concerned..I cannot even begin to tell you the number of GROSS eyeglasses I have been asked to adjust..People wear their glasses everyday...so equiviate that to the idea of wearing the same suit everyday...now, wouldn't you want to "clean" those eyeglasses everyday...the amount of gross things and "junk" i have found in people's eyeglasses never ceased to amaze me...and they wear these on their faces!!! People with metal frames, with nosepads...the arms that hold those nosepads on get so much "glop" built up in them and the nosepads themselves..its' absolutely disgusting...
Here's a handy tip..:
Take your eyeglasses, everyday, and submerge them in a bowl, deep enough to cover your entire pair of glasses...with lukewarm water and liquid soap..and let them soak for ten minutes...take them out..and dry with a lint free towel...
Pretty simple, eh??
So, never assume that eyeglasses are "safe"...lord knows what's crawling around in peoples eyeglasses!!

In fact there are more and more near-sighted people in my country. Even children will have the eyesight problem when they are little. I think the heavy homework causes it. It's not easy for a child to learn so much. I had my near-sighted eyesight when I was in high school.

an ophthalmologist friend of mine gave me a set of contact lenses years ago. and it's of different colors. wow. i don't have problems with my eyes. but it was just for the idea that i will look prettier with them. i tried to wear them. but everytime i try to wear them, i found it painful. so, the contacts ended up in my closet. i never used any of them. i love my eyes anyway. no need for me to put those lenses just to fake it... anne

I don't wear contact lens. I agree it is convenient, but don't think it as 100% safe.

I am also near-sighted and like you am not a big fan of wearing contact lens. I generally wear glasses and have done so for a large portion of my life. I have seen many eye laser treatments such as Lasik and while many might claim that it is safe now, I am not about to risk ruining my eye sight permanently. I'd much rather wear glasses than go around without them, but with empty black spots and other errors for the rest of my life.

I wear glasses, but I would suggest contact lenses as an alternatie for some special occations. When I attend my martial art classes, I always wear my contacts instead of my glasses, for obvious reasons. However, wearing contacts in general gives you a sense of freedom, as you don't need to worry about scratching lenses, or cleaning them... But it's a huge pain when one folds or pops out, and I've had one drift to the back of my eye... But to keep a set on hand is always nice. ^^
