Why is everybody always picking on pit bulls?

There was an incident in our trailer park.... yes I said trailer park.... anyway there was a little ankle biter who bit a kid in the face, and when asked what he was going to do about it, the guy returned fire with the question of "what are you going to do about all these G&% d@&n pit bulls out here?" Well instead of asking the guy if the kid was okay or anything like that he returned fire on all the other dogs out here that haven't done anything. I think it is completely wong because they didn't say that he had to put his little dog to sleep, but they may make us get rid of all of our dogs.(those of us who have pit bulls) I have two mixes. One is 3/4 bull mastif 1/4 pit, and the other is 1/2 pit and 1/2 boxer. They neither one are mean they ae still just a year old and 7 weeks. even the one that is a year old will not even growl. she only barks if she is startled. She jumps on you but only because she is excited and would lick you to death before she would bite you. We always take her out on a leash like we are supposed to and clean up after her too. the little guy well there is not much to say here. So anyway the guy called the coporate office and they said they were going to come out here and find any evidence of dogs and go through and make everyone get rid of their dogs if they were even part pit. Why is everyone always picking on pit bulls? Isn't it how you raise the dog, and how you treat them that makes them mean or nice? How is any of this fair? What do you think should happen? By the way if you refuse to get rid of your dogs they are giving you 90 days to leave the premisses. How could they just expect you to throw out part of your family? My dogs are part of my family. Anyone who has dogs I'm sure you feel thesame way about your pets.

Well I suppose they have to pick on something, its a viscious circle, if they are not picking on pitbulls then its some other breed...I have a Doberman and were tagged viscious and bad for many years, its unfair to tag these animals on the basis of a few incidents...I love my dogs and yes they are part of the family, I wouldnt get rid of them for anything or anyone..

Pit Bulls are actually far less likely to bite than other breeds. They get a bad rap because when they do bite it causes so much damage. When some little kicking dog bites people tend to ignore it as no big deal.

I know I think that is why I am so pi$$ed off. Because there are so many people who give pits a bad rep and then the dog that bit this kid is just getting a little smack on the bottom for dang near ripping the kids eye out. That is BS if you ask me.

"there was a little ankle biter who bit a kid in the face" - if it had been a pit bull instead of a little ankle-biter that bit the kid's face what do you think the kids face would have looked like after? Do you think the dog would have stopped at just one bite? Would the kid even still be alive? All dogs can bite - doesn't matter what breed they are. The difference with pit bulls is the damage they can do when they do attack. I've seen a pit bull attack another dog and that was bad enough. That particular pit bull was raised as a much loved family pet and generally what I would have described as a "cute dog". It sure wasn't cute that day anyway. If people want to keep pit bulls let them do it (they can't legally here in the UK anymore) but they better keep them away from my family.

The kids face was pretty messed up after "the little ankle biter" got done with him. The "little ankle biter" tore this kids face up and bit him more than once, 2 times to be exact. And as far as the kid being alive.. After a pit had bit him, that is hard to say.. But even the little ankle biters can kill chldren, if they hit the right spot. See that is why people misconcieve pits in the first place.. They see the smaller dog, and automatically think that they can't do that much damage because they are little. BS

I am also the owner of a part pit bull, he's pitbull/yellow lab. Anyways, we've been lucky in not having people give us a hard time about our dog. If you take care of your dogs people should just mind their own business and respect the fact that you're actuallyt a good owner! They can do their own part in protecting themselves and their kids if they're frightened of the breed, there shouldn't be a need for getting rid of your dog altogether. It's so sad when you hear about what some people do to their pit bulls...

I agree, I think anyone who raises them for fighting should be tarred and feathered among a lot of other worse things thast I can think of.

Because they attack people and other dogs far more often than other breeds...

I don't know about all that, around here it is more likely for a small dog to attack than the bigger ones. Like I said that is only the case out herre, not everywhere.

I heard it is the potential for damage. Since little children are about the size of a large pit bull, the dog might take them as a threat (or supper) so you have to be careful. Anyway even a friendly pit bull can turn on a child and attack him if he thinks the child is a threat. No the child is probably not pulling the dog's ear or something like that. That is what people assume. He could be just walking by, and the dog is thinking 'Here I am having a nap' and that little human gets the attention I should be getting." So do you suppose that when a pit bull turns on a child, it is jealous? However if you keep your dogs on a leash and not let them attack your kids you should not have to get rid of them. So have you considered getting a dog of another breed?

I don't think it is jelousy, becuase our dogs get just as much attention as our children, because they are like children to us... At least not in my case it is not jealousy. I have considered having another breeed, and have. But the thing is I have found that the little dogs are more likely to bite because they see the children as a bigger threat because they are bigger.. They see them towering over them and think OMG what the heck is that. Thank you for posting.

Finally another pitty lover. I think people are just scared and miss educated about the breed altogether. I don't know why people over react when it comes to this breed because they aren't any different then any other dog. If raised properly it will act as so easy as that. You might get the odd bad dog but you get that with every breed. The fact of the matter is a pit bull in my opinion is less dangerous then a German Sheppard because this breeds bite is way more distructive then a pit bull. I love my pit bull and not in the 3 years I have owned her has she ever bite anyone. I could put meat in her bowl then when she's eating it I could reach back in without fearing of getting bitten. I could take it out her mouth if I wanted. I think people need to be better educated on the breed before they judge it!
