A handful of people in the ocean of humanity. Honesty is a rare commodity. In a bank where our salaries are credited, the casher gave me Rs.20,000 instead of Rs.2000. I was surpised and even shocked. The casher was always a rude and I though this is the only opportunity to put him into shame. I called my colleagues and in front of them I returned Rs.18,000 excess paid. He was almost to my feet, thanking profusely. He would have had his salary cut for deficiency in cash and this he would have to pay for couple of years. Since then he became a close friend of mine and needless to say all my colleagues and myself had excellent service. Even the rich people who nitice excess received will not return saying that it is adjusted to what they had lost earlier. A sort of balancing the account!!

Another incidence at UN Head quarters in New YOrk. I was a visitor there andleft my baggage in the security counter. I had an argentinian youth to accompany me and at the end of the day, we exist in the rear side of the building, totally forgetting about my baggage which had travellers cheques. I realised it late in then ight when I needed some money, where is the money. I called UN Office security who said I should come to office immediately and collect the baggage by producing identity. I went there and they allowed me to open the baggage to show my passport as identity. Everything was intact and I just admire their sense of responsibility and honesty.

I have to say that rarely get caught out with being overcharged but have had a few incidents where been underchaged, like the other day, went to Macdonalds and bought my daughter a happy meal from the drive through, when the guy passed me the change I did not take much notice till left and saw he had given me exactly the amount that I had given to him. Bonus!
