Depletion of Oxygen, A real danger.

A month ago, I saw a re run of the Star Trek episode where the home world of the Klingons were in a real danger of depleting its oxygen in a short time. This is the result of their industrialization. The film was made in the late 80's (or early 90's) where the people are beginning to be concerned with the environment. Today, humans are all aware of its environment, the reduction of carbon emissions and other concerns were raised. Mr. Al Gore even dedicated himself over environmental concerns. Of course the the above film is a product of the imagination but what if the trees can not purify the emissions and all the Oxgen will be depleted? Can we transfer to other planets like in the movies? This is a puzzling question that concerns our survival as a race.

Your description sounds like the Star Trek movie, "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. It was a problem facing the Klingon Homeworld when one of the moons, Praxis, exploded. The oxygen of the planet would have been depleted in 50 years, as Mister Spock had pointed out. And yeah, it was a consequence of industrialization, as they mined the moon until it became too unstable to hold itself together.
It is a major issue in today's day & age that some governments do not even want to deal with. At the moment, we are faced with global warming & the like. With the technology today, if we were faced with the problem, we most likely will not have any way to get from here to another planet, unless we get help from a more advanced civilization.

It's absolutely correct that the problems of industrialization and pollution are going to be big trouble in the near future and the time to act is NOW! Unfortunately, the powers that be and our global society in general seem more than content to wait for "someday" for solutions. Humanity (and by extension, ALL life on this planet) is going to have to pay a very dear price for inaction in the short term future. We should already be undertaking massive repair projects, not only to reduce but eliminate polution and repair the damage that's already been done. Then we could be concentrating on the "someday" we really need to be worrying about.
Someday life is going to be dependent on interstellar travel for survival! Eventually this star will exhaust it's fuel supply of hydrogen nuclei and begin fusing helium nuclei, in the process, it will lose a great deal of mass and expand to a red giant. We might be alright hiding on Mars or the moons of Jupiter or Saturn for awhile but then it will exhaust the helium and nova (explode). There won't be any place in this solar system to hide from that. We really need to be looking at the Star Trek series with interest for our own survival.
