My Charity Event For This Year....

I've had to come up with a newish idea for fundraising for this year. Some of you will remember our Exercise Bike Ride last year, from John O'Groats to Lands End, so what could I do this year, that was a bit different?
Well, I sat down and thought about it, and came up with the idea of a Treasure Hunt. It will give me an excuse to roam the local countryside, finding landmarks and clues and should be good fun to set up.
I've arranged for Phil to set up a barbecue for when people arrive back, and Posh Bob is going to do his monthly quiz in the evening, so all in all, it fell pretty well into place.
Do you ever set up fundraising events? If so, do you have any fresh ideas for me that would raise a reasonable amount of money for our local hospital?

Hi Darkwing.
I don't have ideas for a full-on event like you are describing, but here is an idea that could be part of a summer event: maybe instead of, or with the BBQ.
Obtain a 40 or 50 foot length of downpipe and cut it in half lengthwise. Set it up on trestles. Line the troughs with alfoil. Fill with ice cream, jelly, fruit, nuts, lollies, chocs, sauce, wafers, etc. Give everyone a spoon.
Of course, these days, you would probably have to give everyone a bowl and a spoon - but we never did. It was great fun! (The items are usually donated by stores or companies and you can sell the bowl and spoon to participants)

Cloud!!!! WELCOME BACK, my friend... I've missed you so much! ((((Hugggg)))). It's great to see you.
Lol... your idea sounds great... I think the kids and youngsters in particular might enjoy that. I'm a little worried as to whether the ice cream would last too long without melting though. I suppose the trick would be only to have a little ice cream at a time, and keep topping it up when it runs out.
Thank you, Cloud, for your input and Brightest Blessings. x

Hey! If it doesn't melt in Aus, why would it melt there? Anyway, once it starts melting, it is more fun!

There is a similar contest in our town. a treasure is hidden in a public place it is not the actual treasure it is a certificate giving the stated amount, that is accessible to every one, the directions are sold piecemeal over several weeks.for instance, first clue the treasure is with in sight of a fire house.second clue a child's blissfully afternoon,. Generally the clues cost $5 each and you end up spending about $20-25 before some one finds it The treasure is usually $1000 so they get an excellent response The clues a sold at a local grocery store, it is a lot of fun and the response is good.

That sounds a bit like a lottery with a difference, in that it keeps the townspeople amused whilst the prize money is mounting. A lovely idea, but I don't think that would really work in my case, for two reasons. 1. In order to be able to pay that amount of prize money, it would take forty people to spend $25.00 over say, five weeks. That would leave no funds for the charity. 2. I live in a very lightly populated village, which is spread quite wide, geographically, and have only one pub, one post office and a couple of garages. I could probably pull it off but I can't see that the charity would benefit too much. It's worth a thought though... working along those lines, I might be able to stage something like that. I sell a football ticket in the winter, at the pub, which gives £20 prize money and £20 to charity, so I might be able to adjust that a bit.
Thank you for your input Robin... it's much appreciated, as you've given me something different to work on.
Brightest Blessings.

That sounds like a wonderful idea sweeheart - I am sure it will be a roaring success! I have heard of some funny ideas but I don't know how appropriate they would be! I expect you have done a lot of the normal things so there is no point suggesting things like a race night etc! What about a promise auction - lots of people donating things like painting a room. baking a cake, doing the ironing and then auctioning them all off, you can also get local businesses to donate meals, books, services etc! Do let us know how the treasure hunt goes! xxx

Thank you, Mummymo. The auction of promises sounds like a good idea. There are a lot of wealthy people in this village and if I could get them interested, that one might just work. A few of them already pay for a cleaner, or childminder, whatever, because they work as air stewards and pilots, so that sounds like a good idea to me. I'll have to get some letters out to local businesses and then ask the darts boys to collect for me, I think, as I have quite a bit on my plate at the moment, but yes... they'll probably support the local hospital, or most of them will.
Certainly, I'll let you know how it goes... thank you for taking such an avid interest and for the suggestions. Brightest Blessings, love and hugs. xx

I have done alot of that sort of thing. You can ask for donated items fro local businesses and people. Many will be happy to part with extra plants or the stand in the corner that isn't needed anymore. Set up a huge sale with all the used items and have the new things up for chinese or silent auction. You set out a sheet of paper and pens beside each item and let people write their highest bid. When someone else comes along they will put a higher price then the first. I have a couple of friends that just love to keep sneaking back to out bid the other. It is really great fun to see who will end up with it in the end. If you are bidding on a number of items that are far apart you have to keep running back and forth to see if you are still ahead. The other way is to sell tickets and have jars with the name of each item. You take the tickets and drop them in the jar of the item you want to bid on. Of course the more tickets you buy the better your chance of winning the item. We have made alot of money this way.
We have set up a fair with booths of games. ..A tub of water with frisbees to thrown in...A bean bag toss...A dunking booth...kissing booth...etc
You are so nice to be doing this! Cheers to you

Raydene... thank you so very much for your great ideas. I'm gonna have to get my whip out on those boys again, to help me collect from local businesses! lol.
I really like the idea of the bidding in appropriate jars.
Brightest Blessings my friend, for a great day! xxx

A very nice idea and I have been involved in that type of event many years ago. An event that we did was in a car park where there were several obstacles to compete in a car event.A height bar was set up with your instructions on the level that you thought you would pass under it with the winner being the closest to the bar.
Then there was the width judgement in between two cones. Driving up to a cone without touching it with your bumper and the same idea with reversing.
A very nice day was had by all.

Indeed a noble idea to organise a charity event. A treasure hunt is a good idea. Have it in groups, where one after uncover one treasure will hold clues to another treasure. Sort of a chain. Hold it like the amazing race style perhaps.
Perhaps a garage sales? food and fun fair? Anyway, I have not organise one before. If only I am in UK, I might help you out. Personally, I think it is fun involving in such an organisation. Have fun.

Wow... I wish you WERE in the UK, Why. Many hands make light work! :)
Thank you for the ideas... they seem pretty good to me. I would love to hold a Medieval Feast, with appropriate music and dancing, but I fear a pig roast may be a little expensive. However, I'm putting out feelers, and will also consider yours. I'd like to up the events to two a year, one during the darts season and a bigger scale one, outside the season.
Brightest Blessings.
