If you're looking for the best bang for your buck, AMD all the way. The fastest AMD processor is the AMD Athlon64 X2 6000 priced at $169.99 here:

The Intel equivalent would be the Core 2 Duo E6600 priced at $222.90 here

I'm sure some will argue, but feel free to look up benchmarks before attacking me. In order to get the Core 2 Duos that are better you'll have to shell out over $300. If money's no object, go for it. Otherwise, AMD has much better prices.

Intel all the way...they are better quality and better everything...i'd wait till the end of the summer cas they are bringing out totally new processors so if u want u have the choice with premium much better processors from both companies or even more drastically reduced processors from both companies...good luck

Personally, I prefer AMD processors. I feel they perform better and have fewer issues than Intel. The last processor I purchased is the AMD Athlon T64 X2 6000+ Dual-Core CPU w/ HyperTransport Technology which I am very happy with.
